Sortino Field at UMass appears to be a typical collegiate softball field for most schools. Not luxurious, but nevertheless provides wrap around seating in back of home plate. The distance down the lines can easily be changed by relocating the score board in left field, and taking the warning track to the current outer perimeter fence that abuts a parking lot. There is plenty of room for expansion. The outfield and infield are natural composition. It does appear to be missing a press box and adequate restrooms for fans and concession facilities from looking a recent pictures. Unfortunately, other than the power schools in the south and west, most collegiate softball facilities from my travels seem similar to what you see at UMass. Sortino Field opened in April 2000. In case you are interested in the required dimensions of a softball field: 11luuvtufne6f2y33i1nvedi-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/softall_field_dim.pdfI expect that the new softball stadium on the lower campus will be properly designed for a D1 program that will be scalable in seating and facilities.

It will be a pleasure to attend a game in comfortable seats a few feet from the playing field during those couple of weeks before the season ends when the weather is warm. A hot dog and drink from the concession stand and a nearby restroom, if you want anything else you are just being greedy.

Maybe have a concession open, a small team store, some promoting of the game. Maybe a giveaway. The stadium is great to watch a game at.

You're never gonna see these things at a school where baseball isn't a revenue sport and you could fit the crowd in a phone booth.

Noticed this in the five-year strategic plan:
Finalize the full phase out of all retired logos and marketing campaigns on campus and throughout the digital community.

I guess that means bidding "so long" to our Crusader with sword.

At least it says "retired logos" which doesn't imply bringing up the discussion of "Crusader" again.

HC used to supply a host of Crusader logos to all who wanted them. I am assuming they have been stopped (although you can still see then with red replacing the purple at Bergen Catholic High School).

Again why does a big crowd determine how the experience should be for the fans that do go and care. No other schools with small crowds give you a good experience at a baseball game? We have one of the best stadiums. What about the athletes? What kind of attitude is that? Your school won a national championship int this sport. Its not Becker college baseball. They have had just as much success as Men's basketball if not more. "The Premier sport"

Re Crusader: Can't leave out my beloved Stepinac Crusaders. School opened in '48. One of the administrators was the highly respected Fr. Stan Matthews, HC, Class of '42. Could there possibly have been a connection to the Stepinac Crusader? Stepinac supplied a steady stream of students to HC for many years during his time at the school for some reason. HC grads have traditionally been among the most loyal alums in the nation.

^ YOU are the one who complains about everything, not me.
I tried to point you in the right direction to who to direct your complaints with multiple times; but you continue to spin your wheels here amongst those who can't do a thing about all your complaints.
End.

UMass softball has hosted multiple regionals in the last 20 years so it is just interesting to me that the NCAA allowed it.

UMass having a campus hotel walking distance from Sortino Field, and all other athletic facilities makes it attractive to the NCAA.

^ UMass having a campus hotel walking distance from Sortino Field, and all other athletic facilities makes it attractive to the NCAA. Well, they don't host in any other sports in the last 15 years besides maybe a first round on campus lax game. None with multiple four team regionals over three days.

Uh - well that'd be because softball at UMass (and Lax to an extent) has had many good seasons, and the better teams get to host regionals. The other campus teams that could potentially host regionals stink.

The other campus teams that could potentially host regionals stink. The softball facility is far from up to the standards that the ncaa wants now to host. Lights, video boards, permanent bathrooms for athletes, etc. Here is the NCAA regional host book for this year which will be announced this week as they are doing predetermined sites in baseball and softball. ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/softball/d1/2020-21D1WSB_HostOpsManPrelims.pdf#page9

The men were national runners up in 2006 while last appearing in the ncaa tourney in 2018 and the women's program dominates the A-10.
