If I were putting together next year’s schedule, one of the top priorities would be to schedule a game at UNCC for a variety of reasons.

So you want to absorb the cost of flying to Charlotte and staying one or two nights in a hotel just to play against Austin ? UNCC does not ‘buy’ OOC games - I’m not as sentimental as you are.

Playing in the Charlotte area would be a homecoming game for RJ, Gerrale and Nolan in North Carolina for their families.
The game in the Tarheel state would not be targeted to specifically play on Austin’s new team. Which by the way, my opinion it would be a bad idea for Austin to play against his former team that he has spent four years giving his all to achieve success. I also thought it was a bad idea when HC played against UConn, in the Hartford Civic Center when RJ Evans was spending his fifth year and getting his grad degree.
There are other teams in NC besides UNCC that HC can also play, .....Davidson, High Point, Elon, to name three whose schedules may be open. Across the border and near Charlotte, Winthrop University in Rock Hill South Carolina would also provide a close game for their families.
Also, it appears that North Carolina is a targeted recruiting area for HC. Maybe we can find an under recruited athlete from Emsley Laney High School, who has not yet reached his potential.

Why not play in the Bronx, Queens, Philly, ChiTown, Atlanta and other places across our beautiful recruit rich nation? NC might be a great idea but...

Maybe it has become old school but in the past, it was common for schools to schedule a game in the hometown of a player once in their four years or three years for way back in the 50's and 60's. In the case of HC, it was easy to do with so much of the typical roster from NY/NJ and to a lesser extent, Mass.

Instead we play games every year in outposts like Hamilton, NY; Bethlehem, Easton and Lewisburg, PA, all places loaded with alumni and potential students.

Why not play in the Bronx, Queens, Philly, ChiTown, Atlanta and other places across our beautiful recruit rich nation? NC might be a great idea but... I am afraid you are missing the point. The reason to play in the Charlotte area next year is to provide an in person game for the families of three of the members of next years team. The same would be true in scheduling a game in the Detroit area for Ryan Wade and Bubba Humphrey’s family. Ideal would be against U Detroit Mercy, as part of the Jesuit Spotlight series for basketball. Another option would be Oakland University. Also, following the Jesuit spotlight model, a game against Loyola of Chicago for Malcolm Townsel. Games against U Richmond or William and Mary for Caleb Kenney’s family or against SMU or the U of North Texas for Austin Lewis would also provide their families with a homecoming game the following year. The cities you mentioned are all, fine if there was a specific reason to play there with a specific team with a home and home contract. I would like to see St. Joe’s or LaSalle back on the schedule for the Philly connection. Fordham does not want to play us, but maybe Manhattan for the Bronx connection.

While this would be nice, I'm sure this is nowhere near the top of the scheduling priority list for Bill Nelson. Should we make it a point to also get games with Illinois, UNC Wilmington, St. Francis (Brooklyn), Fairfield, Lewis University, Pace, Grand Valley State and Eastern Michigan?

The top scheduling attempt by HC needs to be a game in NYC every year.

The top scheduling attempt by HC needs to be a game in NYC every year. Barring an appearance at MSG or Barclay's, the significance of a generic road game (Fordham, Iona, Manhattan, Columbia, Hofstra, St. Johns at Carnesecca) in Greater NYC is overstated IMO. Would love to see home-and-home series with either Fordham, Fairfield or both re-kindled. I'd take a 2 for 1 with tbe Rams. We also play ARMY every year at West Point. Always seems to be a Wednesday night but its a convenient trip for anyone in Westchester, New Jersey or Hudson Valley. I get up there in about 50 minutes from the North Bronx.

Disagree.
A game in NYC is needed for historical significance, keep HC on the NYC radar, and for alumni engagement.
Zero interest in a h&h w/Fairfield, and West Point is not NYC.

I do not see a reason about playing specifically against a current team of a departed player from HC. That is water under the bridge. Good luck to them in their new program. Since HC recruits nationally, it would be a morale boost and a nice jester for a member of the current team to have a game during his four years at HC against a team from his home area. Except for Fairfield, (Jesuit spotlight series, along with a long time close rival) I would say the list of schools mentioned HC has no current reason to schedule them. Regarding Fordham, they have a new head coach, Kyle Neptune, who played at Lehigh, and a new AD, Ed Kull. The baggage left from Derek Wittenberg, may now be removed from Rose Hill. Since Kyle is familiar with HC and certainly remembers the games during the Willard era, the door may be open. Then again, he may remember the games he played against HC during the Willard era, and has a reason to keep the door shut. 😊

I think it's classy (and maybe smart recruiting wise) to give kids a chance to play back home; also a reward for those parents that spend so much time traveling to Worcester to support their sons. I also want to see more games in the NYC area - no reason why we can't have both.
I used to be gung ho about local games, but maybe not as much now. Particularly weary of UMass and BC in particular; who the heck are they to call the shots anyhow. The Beagles, for crying out loud, struggle to keep out of the cellar in the Boston area university standings, let alone the ACC. When was the last time they were the best team in Boston? Bleep them.

There's 6 (or maybe 7) leagues that are always going to be calling the shots, sadly; even if a specific team in one of them is not good.
UMass is not in one of those leagues.

I like the concept of making some attempt to play a game reasonably close to a player's home at some point during his career. I remember Duke coming to BU about 20 years ago (they had a New England kid on the team)and Coach K coming out and saying he likes giving his kids a chance to play close to home if he can find a game against the type of opponent Duke might face in the first round.
It might even be a recruiting tool from far parts of the country if a coach has a reputation of trying to get his players a trip close to family and friends

North Carolina also played at Dartmouth in (I think) '98-'99.

Charlotte used to have a decent men's basketball program before it sold its soul to start and play low level FBS football.
