Chris's decision goes far beyond football. In a nutshell, he simply wasn't happy at Holy Cross. Unfortunately, he suffered a hamstring injury just before camp started that lingered the entire Spring season. This kept him from being able to run like he can given what he showed in practice last fall. The coaches even commented his FR year that they did not realize how fast he was as he was outrunning several players in the secondary. The QB power is his play and one has to wonder what could have been but for his injury. Yes, he is 6'2" and now at 227lbs. He is built like a LB or SS. The roster numbers were never updated for the Spring. Compliance confirmed he as 4 years of eligibility remaining as he did not play his FR year and this past year doesn't count due to COVID. He informed the coaches he was leaving the day after the South Dakota State game, but the decision was made well before. He wanted to finish out the season.

Joe Pesansky is the guy from Florida--originally from NoVa I believe. I think he will make his presence felt Here's the count of quarterbacks from some past seasons (FR-S0-JR-SR). One might conclude that Coach Chesney does not like to carry as many on the roster as FCTG 2010= 2-1-2-1 6 TOTAL 2013= 0-4-2-1 7 TOTAL 2014= 2-1-0-3 6 TOTAL 2016= 1-2-2-1 6 TOTAL
2018= 1-2-1-1 6 TOTAL 2019= 1-0-2-1 5 TOTAL 2020= 2-1-0-2 5 TOTALPesansky lived in NVA ( Annandale area which is in the neighboring school district of Annandale HS, the home of Duffner) before moving to Tampa- He attended WT Woodson HS and played football, basketball and I believe baseball. Some at the school, including the basketball coach, thought his best sport was basketball- at least before he departed NVA, The coaches that he kept in touch with say in their opinion he is a great get for Holy Cross. Time will tell as he transitions from the HS to College game, but agree with KY he should be a factor in the QB competition. I would have liked to see Butash in that group but that is not meant to be-- wish him luck and great success in his future efforts on and off the field.

Thanks for that update, hcfaninfi. I can't believe how often such an injury at a key point in time can have such a huge negative impact on a player. (PS: Welcome to Crossports posting if you have not already been welcomed.)
Also, I have enough faith in our coaches to know that (1) they are well aware of the number of QBs on the roster (and have been for some time), and (2) they have been looking at, and have already decided on the best way to deal with this. I believe they have been addressing it since well before it was mentioned here on Crossports.

if they are short qbs, probably not a terrible idea to practice a lot of the wildcat-type stuff with a running back

I wouldn't mind a two QB system with Sluka and Pesansky if the kid is the real deal. I have to imagine most everyone in the program saw the Butash transfer coming, especially with Pesansky committing.

I have to imagine most everyone in the program saw the Butash transfer coming, especially with Pesansky committing. Pesansky committing had absolutely nothing to do with Chris transferring. As I said in my previous post, Chris's decision to leave goes far beyond football. He has never shied away from competition. In fact, he was a little too competitive and tried coming back from his hamstring injury early and ended up hurting it again - which caused him to miss almost all of the season.

I hope Chris finds the right football option and a great school for his future.

Looking forward to seeing Forrest at TB but wouldn't mind seeing an FBS transfer RB to complement him and our RB corps next Fall.
What position group do you guys feel would most benefit/needs a boost via the transfer portal for next season?

What position group do you guys feel would most benefit/needs a boost via the transfer portal for next season? Thinnest spots are definitely QB and RB. Would prioritize a QB over an RB.

Chris is potentially looking at two years of graduate school while playing football, a rare opportunity. Good luck Chris and thanks for contributing JSherman.

Former HC offeree and local kid now in the Portal from Notre Dame: Maybe Coach Chesney can work his magic and bring him back to Worcester and Holy Cross... Has had some injuries one of which required shoulder surgery...

Richmond likes our grad transfers - their baseball team featured Chris Rinaldi and Austin Masel this past spring - although neither one had a big season for the Spiders
