I knew that the shooter had 10 seconds from when he/she received the ball to let the shot go, but I had never seen that called until yesterday in the Bucks/Heat playoff game. Giannis Antetokounmpo got called for it; and having gone back and timed it; it was a lot more like 11 seconds than 10.
Has anyone else seen that violation at any level?

"Traveling" ...what his that in the NBA? It seems that many players can start their drive at the midcourt line and dunk it with nary a dribble the whole way. That is one of the things I dislike about NBA "basketball. Next you'll try to have us believe there is a rule against "carrying" the ball to change direction.  I do look forward to seeing their annual list of "suggestions" for NBA officials. |

I remembah one of my brothers calling it to bust cajones at a youth game years ago. I have never seen it called live in my years of playing, coaching or watching.

I had it called in a HS JV game many years ago..The ref was a young guy, who eventually became a women's college ref, D-1...Never like the guy, he was too much about himself..

I love the game of basketball, but haven’t watched the NBA this century-it has changed from a game to entertainment and unfortunately the money killed the sport. I guess college is next |

I agree with you and seldom watch the NBA. I hope college hoops can avoid making the same mistakes.

I remember a violation on a free throw called on Malcolm Moulton ( not the shooter) for lining up wrong near end of game in Volunteer Classic in Knoxville -December 1972 losing 68-65 to Missouri . WTAG radio announcer said it was a bad call . For some reason I’m thinking the announcer was Maynard Allen or Chapman .(Holy Cross archives all time record shows it as a 88-65 loss -typo)

What happened was that Moulton was asking one ref if he could still take a position on the side of the key and the other ref handed our shooter the ball. Something like that.

Former Celtic/Supersonic Dennis Johnson used to dribble the ball once for every year he played in the NBA prior to taking a free throw. By the end of his career, broadcasters sometimes commented about his ritual being a violation of the time rule. Don't recall it being called against him

I think you have it right. I believe one of our players made a move into an area he couldn’t after the foul shooter was handed the ball. Whatever it was exactly, as an eyewitness, it wasn't necessary. Bruce Grentz I was 100% sure was going to make the free throws. Missouri ended up in the NIT as no league runner-ups qualified for the NCAAs at the time. But when we played them they were a top 10 team. Tragic to lose that way, even though another recollection of that game was that we stuck with them, but weren't playing all that well (go figure). |
