Any idea what the plans are to have reunions? You've got a pair of classes that have a 25th and 50th that were skipped.

The delayed 50th reunion for the 1970 class is scheduled for mid October (14th-16th) on campus. Schedule in the process of being finalized but we expect will include the football game/tailgate which traditional June Reunions don't afford. We won't be able to stay in campus dorms (another plus? ) because while the students are off that week, their rooms will not be vacant. We've arranged a block of rooms at one of the newer/nicer hotels downtown for out of towners. My understanding is that at least one (maybe two) of the other skipped reunions will be off campus and don't recall when and exactly where they are to be held. Thought one was going to be in NYC.

You'd think the 50th for the class of 71 will end up on campus ...maybe the smaht thing to do is have it in June of 2022 concurrently with 1972s...I think if that were the case I'd make an effort to get to the cookout....getting to see people I knew in the two classes ahead of me would be an opportunity difficult to pass up.

tim, as I recall the conversations with HC staff, adding the delayed reunions to the already scheduled "normal" June reunions was logistically untenable. As you are likely aware, they have used Loyola for the 25th and 50th Reunion classes due to the private bathrooms and having multiple 25th and 50th reunion classes couldn't fit everyone into Loyola. Not sure what they've been doing with the dorms with the suites but that still means sharing bathrooms which many wives (and alums) aren't up for.
Among other things, I'm the 1970 Class unofficial necrology keeper and we've had 103 known passings in the last 51 years and the numbers have obviously been accelerating and we made a conscious decision to do our reunion as soon as logistically possible and that was our October date. We already lost some Classmates between when we were initially scheduled in June, 2020 and when they mailed out our "Purple Knight" pins (btw, there is no knight on those pins now).

I would agree that delaying your reunion more than the 19 months it will end up being delayed doesn't make any sense.
In the case of 1971, it'd be 12 months if that class wants to wait. There's ample time to plan it out; for example, a third weekend. Let's see what they come up with.

No, Tim, a 3rd weekend in June doesn't work for us or any other reunion classes per the HC staff. I think it has to do with summer sessions of students among other things. We were told it was a non-starter. There's a lot of work putting these together and years ago the number of alums increased to the point where they must do 2 weekends rather than the original 1 weekend. I just believe the logistics and fatigue on staff is too much, pandemic or otherwise.
To be honest, I'm perfectly fine doing ours in October (we were hoping possibly an August date before the students returned) because we can get in a football game as part of our schedule. Bet Bob Chesney would be happy to get some additional fannies in the stands who wouldn't normally be heading to the College in the fall.

They have a year to figure that out. Any reunion of any type was a non-starter in June of 2021- no one had any definite idea there would be no restrictions. But, you're right, maybe they can't do something in June a year for now and will have to do something this fall like what your class is doing.

To clarify, my clear impression was there would not be any 3rd Reunion weekend in June ever and the only touch point with the pandemic is that it created a backlog of reunions.
But, never say never, I suppose.

Thanks for the clarification. Feel bad for the 1971 folks just as I did for you guys. Hope they come up with something that works for the school and the alumni.

I am glad to see that this is happening ! The great Class of 1970 has faced adversity at every step: 1.) Cancelled football season as seniors due to hepatitis 2.) Cancelled classes and exams due to campus unrest 3.) Cancelled graduation 4.) Cancelled 50th reunion. Given their track record it won't surprise me if something happens to delay this. Hope I am wrong!

Let us lift our voices in hope & prayer that the cancel culture which has afflicted the class of '70 has ended. We pray that their ultimate cancellation on earth is an express ticket to eternal joy for the fine alums from this class.

Some folks here graduated “just in time!”😂
BTW, while the reasons for the canceled finals were not happy ones, speaking for myself, I wasn’t too broken up about not having to take finals.😉

Oh, I should add that while we didn’t take finals, we did graduate on time. My uncle was Class of 1943, the centennial Class and due to the unpleasantness of WWII, their graduation was held on their 25th Reunion. Now that’s tough.

Did they not have the graduation ceremony in early June of 1970? I was a freshman and long gone from campus (I think school ended 3 or 4 days after Kent State, which happened on a Monday); and not really paying attention at that point.

And like their other milestones, let's hope that express train is delayed for a good long time.
