I'd either forgotten or never realized that Coach Raynor had been head coach at Framingham State since 2018. But he apparently won't be returning in 2021-22:
I can't find a DOB for him on a quick search, but guessing he must be around 70. Wonder if this is a move into retirement.

Definitely Dartmouth Class of 1974. Played one year for George Blaney and two for his successor (O'Connor?).
Those jobs are prime examples of toiling in obscurity. The local paper doesn't cover them; been years since I saw a game article.

The local paper doesn't cover them; been years since I saw a game article. I'm not even sure what the "local paper" is. I don't think there's a Framingham area daily. The Boston Globe is probably the "local paper" and Framingham is just one of a bunch of D-III schools in their footprint. 6 D-I and 2 (I think) D-II schools in eastern MA. Hard to expect game articles on the more than a dozen D-III schools. Oh ya - Boston is more of a pro town than a college sports town and local paper writers are a dwindling breed

Framingham state is a tough spot to coach hockey and basketball. Good football teams.
Togo Palazzi was 52-95 (1991-1997)
Peter Kelley was 26-71 (1997-2001)
Don Spellman 104-122 (2001-2010)
Paul Wholey 19-31 (2010-2012)
Evan O' Brien 16-35 (2012-2014)
Peter Mugar 25-78 (2014-2018)
Bill Raynor was 8-42. (2018-2021)

(2018-2021) They were good in the 80s with a gym that wasn't worthy of a middle school. They've had a pretty nice one for 20+ years and they stink. Go figure. Baseball there had an interesting situation once upon a time. The coach on several occasions made deals w/the opposing coach to count single games as doubleheaders; whoever won the sole game would "sweep". Then they'd call in the scores to the local paper & the Boston ones. One real one and one fake one. Even would add that "so and so went 2-3....". Went on for a couple seasons, IIRC.

The MetroWest Daily News is the Framingham fish wrap. I have never seen it and am not 100 percent sure what their footprint is supposed to be. Do they carry game stories for any Framingham St games?

The Metrowest Daily News covers a pretty wide area. Its sports page isn't very good and devotes a lot of space to high schools sports. FSU gets a little coverage but the bottom line is that very few people in the Framingham/Metrowest area care about FSU sports.

...they had a good columnist, Len Megliola; now in semi-retirement and not an employee any more. Plus a good writer/editor in Art Davidson, HC76; who also got axed The current writers are all freelancers.

Back in the day The Metrowest News was an afternoon paper called The South Middlesex News (I delivered it for a while as a kid). Can't speak to it now, but they used to provide half decent coverage of Framingham State sports.

The Rams actually had a kid drafted by the Celtics in the early 80s (when the NBA draft went many rounds), Mark Van Valkenburg.

Van Valkenburg played at FS for my high school coach, one of those guys who you could sell one of those page-a-day calendars with a different crazy story about the guy for all 365 days.
