herosports.com/fcs-football-best-traditions-bzbz/On the AGS Board, I found this article regarding the Best Traditions and Rituals in FCS. With HC’s over 125 years of playing Varsity Football, there have been many Traditions and Rituals for the Purple Gang. Can anyone provide Traditions and Rituals, past and present, that have been observed. For the Traditions that are no longer observed, it would be interesting to understand why they have been sunsetted . For current Traditions, they should be noted and publicized by the SID and applauded. Several of our competitors for this upcoming season are noted. In the Patriot League, Colgate for the team eating cake after the Wednesday practice; For Fordham, their Victory Bell ( Which should always be silenced whenever HC plays in the Bronx). Yale has the Bulldog Walk by the team, and Harvard has only one team captain. Another competitor, frequently on our schedule UNH, has a American Revolution regalia with a Cannon and Musket blast after a score. Time to create new Hype for Holy Cross Football. The great ideas should be sent to Coach Chesney and ADMB. Let’s ignite the team and Fitton on game days. It will be interesting to see what Crossporters think should be at the top of the list. I’m sure there will be several advocating for a guy on a horse.🤣

They used to paint a star in the end zone for every win. Haven't seen that in a while at HC

How bout a Crusader in full chainmail on a horse galloping to the 50 and planting the flag to start every game? Oops- nevermind...

Until the late ‘60’s there was a Homecoming Bonfire, I believe on Freshmen Field.
Starting in 2012, for several years, we had a Homecoming Pep Rally on the Hoval beginning at 9:00 PM Friday night, with the various teams and coaches that were available. The Rally included food trucks and rally items.
Any former members of the Purple Key who remember additional team spirit traditions that should be revived?

The upperclassmen (IIRC) would nail coffee cans to a stick with hot coals in them and carry those "torches" from room to room in the dorms to get us out to the pep rally. They were fun (and a great way to get rid of old wood furniture).

My freshman year, fall of 1965, we had a great pep rally that started at O'Kane porch with a rousing talk by Dennis Golden, followed by the bonfire on freshman field. Great memories!

Bonfires before the big game used to be a big thing at many schools. Especially Texas A&M. That tradition fell out of favor
