Wow--it's hard to believe that an old city like Worcester could grow that way -nice to see this positive development for alma mater's city

Apartment building boom? New houses being built somewhere? Proximity to commuter rail which didn't exist a generation ago? The Woo Sox (which will piss off at least one board member)? Any thoughts?

The commuter rail has definitely helped. Downtown has made strides--the new courthouse, apartments, the stabilizing presence of MCPHS. Shrewsbury St.. and all its restaurants. The Worcester Art Museum is excellent. The Woo Sox and the redevelopment of the Canal District is huge. I think it's an accumulation of things that has created a more positive image of Worcester. It's a nice place to live.

Has anyone watched "Kevin Can F Himself" in which Worcester is the fictional home of the McRoberts family? (the show was actually shot in Brockton and vicinity)? More the less flattering picture of The Woo we're used to, unfortunately. The McRoberts couple are said to be graduates of Burncoat High.

IIRC an interactive graphic in the Globe, the absolute number of Whites in Worcester declined from 2010, and Whites now represent a plurality.

Worcester remains the 2nd largest city and overtakes Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk to become the 4th largest MSA in New England. Its place as the second largest city is mostly due to its land mass being larger than many other New England cities. It is more than twice the size of Providence in land mass (37.4sm vs 18.4sm). Cities Boston 691,534 (+12.0%) Worcester 206,518 (+14.1%) Providence 190,934 (+7.2%) Springfield 155,929 (+1.9) Stamford 135,470 (+10.5%) Bridgeport 148,654 (+3.1%) New Haven 134,023 (+3.3)
Hartford 121,054 (-3.0%) MSA Boston-Cambridge-Newton 4,941,632 (+8.55) Providence-Warwick 1,676,579 (+4.73%) Hartford-E Hartford-Middletown 1,213,531 (+0.09%) Worcester 978,529 (+6.71%) Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk 957,419 (+4.43%) New Haven-Milford 864,835 (+0.27%) Springfield 695,654 (+2.23%)

Stamford's increase of 10% I'm sure is due to the desire to escape NYC (and, to a lesser extent, NY State) except as a work destination.
