What a difference a week can make! From the depths of despair after Merrimack to the joyous heights of beating our friends from New Haven for only the sixth time in series history. The Patriot League continues to be the Washington Generals to everyone's else Globetrottahs unfortunately. Some interesting match-ups this week with our first league game, Lehigh @ Colgate, taking place. Only 5 games as the Bison get a much needed bye this week.
Week 4 (all Sat.):
GTown @ Columbia Lehigh @ Colgate UPenn @ Lafayette Fordham @ Stony Brook Holy Cross @ Monmouth
Standings:

OK, our 15 way tie for first is now an 8 way tie. Here we go again: Columbia Colgate Lafayette Stony Brook Holy Cross - probably a heart over head pick, but what else can a "fan" do?

Columbia Colgate (Colgate is down but Lehigh is worse) UPenn (Could be close) Stony Brook (Fordham’s pretty good for a PL team and this year SBU is pretty bad for a CAA team) Monmouth (Giving them the nod on home turf)

KY, I don’t see Ralphie on the leader board of Crossports prognosticators.
No question the Monmouth game could be a losing rout, a close loss or a close win. I expected pre-season that UConn, Yale and Monmouth could all be in that category. So far, the first two were close wins, so I’m sticking with that. Whatever slight psychological edge we have is the loss from 2 years ago and I was there.
I’ll say no more as I don’t want to jinx the saders.

So, it would appear I fouled up last week's contest. For some reason, after declining the chance to pick a PL team other than HC, I listed the PL teams instead of their opponents. There must be penalties for such carelessness, so I will spend the remainder of the season trying to close the gap on the field.

Columbia (by 14 points) Colgate (by 13) UPenn (by 6) - really want to pick the Pards here, just haven’t seen enough offense. Hope they win. Stony Brook (by 4) - game goes back and forth. Really tight. How much in the tank does Fordham have after 3 TOUGH consecutive games. Monmouth (by 11) - HC has to play defense the way we did the last 2.5 quarters of the Yale game and Offense will be forced to move the ball through the air. Can we do both? Also, will need a few breaks.
*game to watch/potential upset. Cornell over Yale? Cornell looked good against a tough VMI team. I might take Cornell if they are getting at least 4.5 points….
*Also, did anyone else notice the FCS Coaches poll has Fordham receiving 5 votes (#38) at 0-3. HC has 1 vote and ranked #43. Shows the coaches know how tough Fordham has played and are talented. They are the ONLY WINLESS TEAM in FBS or FCS that is receiving votes in any poll this year (both media and coaches polls)

Columbia-- Lions ran at will over Marist and G'town has given up a lot of yards on the ground to first two opponents Colgate- tough game to call-could come down to 2-0 win when long snapper launches one into the stands on a punt. Penn- Like others, I have been saying that Lafayette may have a pretty good PL team. Penn crushed Bucknell on the road, so I'll go with Quakers Stony Brook-- Tough call here but I'll go with SBU and home field advantage Monmouth--I hate to type this and I know Crusaders could well prevail . After drubbing by MTSU, Monmouth has posted two good wins and gets to play its first home game

hc87 Know it well. On the punt team when Tommy Rock stepped out of the end zone. 5-3 loss. Coldest game ever played!!! ) I was there-I think it was Parents Weekend and recall my father saying that it was insanity to stay through the whole game. He was right, of course. Not many games have the core and temperature total less than 10 combined.

Coldest game ever played!!! ) That game has always been my "gold standard" (for lack of a bettah term) on how cold it is/was at a game...."Yeah, it's pretty cold today but lemme tell ya about a game in Fitton in 1973...." Remembah looking it up....a cold snap came into Worcester that day....temp dropped from like 40 at noon to about 0 by 4pm. Just brutal...and of course we lost ....life of an HC fan.

That '73 'cuse game was my first in-person HC event ever as an 8 yr old with my dad. Still have the real felt pennant I got at Fitton that day.
