1978. I am sure there is a more direct connection between HC and Alabama, but here goes... HC beats Army Army beats Air Force Air Force beats UTEP UTEP beats San Diego St San Diego St beats Pacific Pacific beats Hawaii Hawaii beats Wyoming Wyoming beats Utah Utah beats BYU BYU beats Oregon St Oregon St beats Washington St Washington St beats Arizona St Arizona St beats USC USC beats Alabama Didn't we beat Air Force in 1978? We don't even need a "transitive property" W against the Falcons when we beat them hewd to head! Yup, but Kentucky wanted the chain to start with Army.

Navy and Army were informal supporters for PL football scholarships. At quick glance I have no idea what this means....

President Rougeau?
Seems like there should be some sort of interim person to focus solely on athletics. There very well could be such a person already named, but the school hasn't seen fit to inform me of this person's name

Pe4rhaps they wanted PL teams to offer scholarships because it would enable games against PL teams to count toward an FBS bowl appearance for esch of the academies.

Back when the PL was debating the football schollie question, Army and Navy folks told their counterparts that a schollie PL would be helpful because they would like to add PL games to their respective schedules -- this was conveyed during a HC get together I attended in DC, fwiw.

Well, what the heck happened? Isn't HC in the mix with the Army? Had a West Point grad, a Colonel and wife at the house with HC grads for libations & some bites after we kicked their butts. He was nasty. Love my country but did not care for his boorish behavior. There have been other examples of WP bad behavior which I have witnessed over the years. Let me posit: Is it possible WP will not play HC out of their fury that we were a better team & manhandled them on that day. TBT I do enjoy watching Bill Swiacki HC/ Columbia make the great catch which set up the score for the historic upset of undefeated Army by my Columbia Lions in '47(?) Screw Army! Go Navy!

I'd argue that for about a 20 year period (early 70s to early 90s), Holy Cross was in some ways Army-WP's biggest football rival year to year after the service academies. Went to a fair amount of those games, they were always well attended by tri-state and other HC fans. HC won a decent amount of those games ('73, '78, '81, '86 and '87) then with some close losses in there as well.

How many coaches/ADs/superintendents have there been at West Point since the 80s? The odds on someone shying away from the Crusaders because HC won in 86 and 87 are beyond remote.

My sense is MB will suggest an interim and VR will rubberstamp it. I'm not sure if the BOT will have a veto or a say.
If the interim is effective, I wouldn't be opposed to HC pocketing the national search fee and after a decent length of time, signing the interim as AD at a good hometown discount and redirecting all savings into the Coach Chesney and staff retention fund.

Respectfully, You oversimplified and missed my point. PS. Try early 2000s. However, my comment was about a mindset as evidenced in my personal experience and WP ducking HC. If they had routed HC?

Maybe. Time will tell. I am sure you recall in the “good old days” in the late 60’s that the service academies had height restrictions.
From memory, no cadet could be either 6’5” or possibly 6’6” so when we had Tex and Easy Ed, Bobby Knight had fits with his altitude challenged players when we scrimmaged them in the field house.
I can’t recall actually playing them a regular season game. Defer to hoops or others with more specific memories.

I remember we had Army one dad drop by and post from time to time. He said that when AWP scheduled HC in hoops they went in hoping to avoid disaster.

sader1970 We played Army (coached by Bobby Knight) in December of 1966 and lost 65-44 in a game where Keith Hochstein broke his ankle. The scrimmage you reference came in November or December of 1967, our sophomore year. In the mid-‘90s, I had a chance to meet Bobby Knight at a banquet. I mentioned that I was an HC student when he coached at Army. He remembered Hochstein…not by name but by physical description and also mentioned that it was strange that there was no return game at HC in the ‘67-‘68 season. BTW, that 21 pt. loss was the worst HC loss to Army in the 93 games in the series. I think Coach K of Duke was a player on that ‘66-‘67 team

Coach K was indeed a soph on that ‘66-‘67 Army team Junior forward Bill Schutsky was the star of that team and one of the best in Army history. As a soph Schutsky played with senior Mike Silliman, probably the best ever, along with Gary Winton and Kevin Houston, at the Academy That Schutsky-Silliman team was the best Army team I have seen.

Can anyone remember the name of a MA (Worcester County?) kid with a Polish name who was a great guard for AWP and who was recruited by HC? Bobby Knight's first win as AWP coach: WPI.

HC didn't play Army again until 74-75, the final game (yay!) at the Auditorium. It was the coach's final game (Dougherty, or something like that; he replaced Knight). Coach K took over the next year.
