Well, the good news is we can only go up from here and over perform. Picked dead last in the AHA poll. AIC returns to the top spot and an upper class heavy (14 juniors and seniors) Army team comes in 3rd. New coach, mixed recruiting class, and most everyone (presumably except the Q transfer) are coming from FHCDB. I do not actually expect us to finish in last place, although we will be lucky if we make it to 6 or 7. Maybe Bill Riga is the type of coach who can come in with this group and motivate them to a prelim round upset. Who knows. I was pessimistic about the year but have some optimism and bulletin board material. Watched Liam Connors play prep the last few years and he can provide some offensive spark and grit. www.uscho.com/2021/09/21/american-international-gets-top-spot-in-atlantic-hockey-preseason-poll-armys-bilek-preseason-player-of-year/Rank-Team-(First-place votes)-Points 1. Dead last and nobody picked for first team -- FHCDB really torpedoed this program.

If HC has to be a cellar dweller (which I don't think will happen as I think the enthusiasm of the new coaching staff will fuel some league wins) at least the school brand won't be dragged through the mud locally as much as if it finished last in Hockey East and lost a lot of money for the privilege.
I'm from the school of thought that says building a champion in the AHA and then getting wooed by a higher rated league is the way to go.
