Are we sure this wasn’t from an HC undergrad alum who went post grad to Yale. I’ve known a few Yalies and most wouldn’t be so gracious though my boss in Columbus used to give me a wink and a nod about the local OSU fans and thought we were kindred spirits having gone to “elite” academic eastern schools.
Of course as I’ve posted before, a number of Buckeye residents thought Holy Cross was an Ivy League school.

Picking a nit...remembah this coming up before, I think Colgate has actually played slightly more games against those 8 fine institutions.

Yeah, by my count, heading into 2021, Colgate's played 45 more games vs the Ivies than HC, with the Cornell series leading the way w/101 games.
HCs most frequent Ivy opponent, Dartmouth (81), followed by Harvard (70), Brown (62), Yale (33)...5 to 10 games each versus the other 4.
If the poster was the type that only thinks of HYP as being the Ivies, HC does have the edge there, 113 to 104.

Maybe someone who remembers Yale-HC games from several decades ago, those games that produced the stock photo that still HC uses as it shows fannies in all the seats at Fitton Field. DFW Hoya pointed out on voy that other than Harvard-Yale, HC @ Harvard in 2011 apparently holds the highest attendance at the stadium in the last decade, and maybe longer.

When I was on the Hill back in the '60s, Dartmouth...the then terror of the IL under Bob Blackman...was our regular Ivy opponent, with occasional tilts against Harvard and (less often) Brown and Yale. As I recall, we had to play two in Hanover for every one in Worcester...which (ironically) mirrored the Dartmouth-Harvard series then. Viz: two in Cambridge for one in Hanover. It's a shame our very long series with Dartmouth has gone down the tubes. It should be revived.

I always assumed Dartmouth was amenable to the two for one with Harvard to get "into town" for the weekend and to play before bigger crowds than the Dartmouth field held. I wonder if Dartmouth had a similar 2-for-1 arrangement with Yale back in the day? The HC/Dartmouth game often fell during or near foliage peak in NH so it was a pleasant trip up there.

2011 was a night game, had a lot to do with the bigger crowd.

After the HC win over Yale. Great read though like to be less of a “hidden” gem.

I wonder if Dartmouth had a similar 2-for-1 arrangement with Yale back in the day? Even more than that. 1884, 1946, 1955, 1974, 1976 Those are the years before 1980 (when it became a home and home) where the Crimson visited Hanover. The Brown game was also in Cambridge until the mid 60s. The Johnnies (had to get that whichever-you-prefer reference in here somewhere, RIP Bob F) never traveled to Amherst for any of their 20 meetings ever w/UMass. One thing you have to say about them, they are loyal to their football coaches and the football coaches have returned the favor as well. They have had 3 head coaches in 65 years: John Yovicsin, Joe Restic and Tim Murphy.
