I guess the voters don't really esteem the rest of our lineup...

One sign of the times is that four of the five players on the preseason All-PL team are fifth year players. Boston U, the pick for 1st, starts three 5th years. Colgate, the pick for second, starts two 5th years and also has a key fifth year sub.

I wonder where Loyola would be if Aldama stuck around - right now they are voted 1 ahead of us at 8th

How does this bode for Nelson if we finish 9th?

I was surprised to see that Gerrale had the highest ppg and rpg of the five pre-season picks.

Usually this should be a pretty good poll since the voters are the most knowledgeable on the topic.
4 out of 9 opposing coaches have actually seen anyone on this team play a college game in person. Loyola watched tape in prep for the cancelled tournament game. I have no idea if Navy, American, Bucknell, or Lafayette coaches spent time over the summer watching tape of HC from last year. I'd be stunned if any of their AD's did. The lack of experience might be enough to vote HC into 9th place, but between not facing half the league last year and massive roster turnover, the voters in this year's poll are as poorly informed about HC as they have ever been

Good to hear that. They will learn from our ooc games pretty quickly, but it does put this poll into perspective, doesn't it?

One thing I like about Coach Nelson is we haven't heard any excuses from him that I know of. (Of course there aren't reporters asking probing questions covering the team and no T&G columnists like HC grad John Gearan looking to stir things up.) From what I can tell he and the staff and the players are working hard with enthusiasm. Hard to say where they will finish but I don't think any opponent should sleep on them.

Anticipating many low scoring, tight contests. Defense will be the key this year.

If this comes to fruition Nelson is a goner.

Not sure about low scoring, but as for most teams--defense, turnovers, and offensive rebounding will be important to the outcome of many games.
