Officially eliminated yesterday with five games left as Lafayette got a win. 4 and 16 in the league. Word is we have minimum five freshman transferring out as well. Basically same story over and over and over again. I'm sure someone will say this team is young and needs time. Only problem is we can't retain anyone which seems like the biggest indicator that something is wrong. Discouraging to hear but quite similar to the mens’ hoop program under FHCBN where two PL freshmen of the year transferred…and they had scholarships. This group includes Malgeri (now playing in the Detroit Tiger farm system), Wang, Kirkpatrick and a number of others in the past few years and those that may depart after this year. No way to build and sustain a program that is the oldest (first game in 1876) and one of the most successful programs (at least in its first 100 years) in HC history. But with full pay players and losing records, it’s not surprising that some would transfer as soon as more $ and/or a winning program became available. We have a first class facility…one of the best in the Northeast. It’s time to reinvigorate the program. Let’s start by funding a few scholarships and see where that takes us. I think it would be reckless to give the baseball program scholarships. Why invest in a program that has so many flaws. They need to clean up internally before this program is invested in with scholarships.

I think They need a change called three scholarships per year You can't give 3 scholarships a year.

The coaching staff doesn't seem very good (I can't really comment on 1 of the coaches though, as I know nothing about him. His bio on the HC website is still blank). The lack of leadership has destroyed most alumni support, and things don't seem to be getting any better. I'd be in the transfer portal the day it opens.

Maybe for the positive support they get from posters on Crossports? Oh, wait...never mind.

5 Freshman, would be interesting, only 1 seems to have the stats to get any traction from other programs. The program needs a reset with a brand new coaching staff.

Freshman Jack Toomey will be the best player on the team. Hopefully we can retain him after freshman year. !!!

Feel like a change in leadership is necessary as well as an increase in funds available. DiCenzo did a lot with a little during his time here. Not looking for a miracle worker, but perhaps an expert recruiter in the northeast and someone who can retain students without jumping in the portal.

Not looking for a miracle worker, but perhaps an expert recruiter in the northeast and someone who can retain students without jumping in the portal. The reason they are jumping is money. I am pretty sure BC's third baseman is getting much more scholarship money now than when he was at HC. Same with the kid at Belmont. HC baseball is going to continue to get kids picked off in the coming years no matter the coach with minimal scholarship money.

The free transfer year and the portal were not around when DiCenzo was the coach - times have changed and only made our rosters more vulnerable - it’s a shame and penalizes coaches who do a good job of recruiting

It seems that the job has moved on from "recruiting" talent to "recruiting and retaining" talent.

Not only are there no scholarships, but there’s no NIL money either. That’s a recipe for failure with the transfer portal. The most talented kids at mid majors can now transfer and get paid from multiple fronts.
As an avid UConn basketball fan, I’ve attended a couple NIL events to help raise money for the student athletes. Does HC do this or do they believe they’re above such a thing?

Just so everyone is clear there is very little money in baseball, even at some of the power 5 schools. In baseball a school at a maximum can only provide up to 11.7 scholarships across 35 players, and only 27 players can be on scholarship. The minimum scholarship they can give a player is 25%, but I am talking athletic scholarship. A lot of schools can get very creative with other types of aid that are not included in this 11.7. A very interesting documentary was released a while back that explains how money is managed in baseball, called Uneven:
A lot of power mid majors are not what they call fully funded, so they may only have 6.5 scholarships or even lower. There is really not much money at all in baseball and it is extremely rare for anyone to get a full athletic scholarship, they might get everything fully covered but it will be with other aid avenues. HC with the facilities can attract very good players, scholarships might help a little, but it won't be a game changer. The coaches will be the game changer and will be the ones that can retain the best talent so they don't jump to other programs. The 3rd basemen that went to BC, may be getting some money, but probably less than you think. What he is getting is way better coaching, better facilities, better training, better equipment, rumor is New Balance just pours shoes/clothes/uniforms into that program week in week out, much better academic support, and they play in a much tougher league. But keep in mind a number of our players could make that same jump no problem when you just look at the baseball skill set. BC has a couple of top pitchers this year that were D3 guys. Talent is not going to be a problem at HC with the right coaching staff. Good coaches, can attract good talent and identify it. Let's see what happens next week after the season wraps. Travel summer ball is when all the recruiting happens so hopefully we make a quick transition to a new staff.

Some good names attached to the facilities. I wonder if Harrington is for former Red Sox President John Harrington? He has steered Yawkey Foundation money to good recipients (Mass General, etc.) around Boston. It would be nice if BC could find something to name for two sport star and former Red Sox manager Joe Morgan before he leaves us. BC is connected to two alums who electrified New England sports fans, Flutie and Morgan. HC has Cousy, Heinsohn, Palazzi, Lockbaum, etc. I wonder if the Yawkey Foundation would consider contributing to a new hockey rink at HC?

Yes the Harrington facility/field and the frates center are excellent. BC doesn’t even sell tickets, just walk in and watch some of the best baseball in the country. It is worth a visit if you like baseball. Our team doesn’t even get a back pack with a HC logo, nothing, we travel like a rag bag group of juco players.

You shouldn't be surprised that UA cares more about the 19th ranked team in the country that plays in the ACC than Adidas does about a bottom feeder in the the invisible pL.
