SJV won 74-36. They have so much talent that I imagine they could’ve entered two teams and come in first and second. One of their current players, a 6-3 junior, committed to Bucknell a couple of months ago. Forgot to mention that SJV defeated Manasquan 64 to 46 in the Shore championship game two weeks ago. Donnelly was held to two points and three rebounds, while Cahalan had three points and three rebounds. Hopefully PL defenses are more porous.

Cahalan’s stats for the year, with one or two games left are 7.4 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Of course minutes are limited on that team, both because they win virtually every game by huge margins and because they have so many talented players. This year‘s roster figures to produce about 10 players who will end up with D1 scholarships.
Donnelly averaged about 9.8 ppg and about 6.5 rpg for Manasquan. Also 3.2 apg.

I was shocked about one thing several years ago when I started having time to follow HC basketball more closely. That players with single digit high school scoring averages received D-1 scholarships. I did not remember that being the case back in the day. I hope these players will be able to flourish next season with less skilled teammates and weaker opponents in a low major D-1 league. Avery has those stats for breakfast and still has room for lunch and dinner.

Manasquan, which saw a 15-game winning streak end in the loss, deployed Mary Donnelly on [SJV star] St. Rose to start the game. Donnelly held Red Bank Catholic forward Justine Pissott to just five points in the SCT semifinal on Tuesday and, earlier in the season, guarded Paul VI guard Hannah Hidalgo.
That defensive game plan worked early as St. Rose managed just six first-half points and Manasquan raced out to a 19-13 lead. But St. John Vianney closed out the half on a 12-4 run to take the lead it would never relinquish

She has been a varsity starter at her high school since her frosh year. That should stand her in good stead at HC if she is needed to do the same thing again.

Right now I would call Cross the most sure handed and experienced replacement for Avery as the main PG next year. But does that conflict with her duties as the defender of the highest scoring opponent guard/wing? She's only human.

In truth, Cross, CM & AL pretty much shared duties this season. Their set offense often had Cross handling the ball up top, but varied. I don't doubt if Flanagan is ready to play she will get plenty of time. For that matter that goes for all the sophs & frosh

We get the player scoring in single digits. Does she have a ceiling similar to Addie Cross? I know Tiny would say her ceiling is on Mars.🙂

We get the player scoring in single digits. Does she have a ceiling similar to Addie Cross? I know Tiny would say her ceiling is on Mars.🙂 From the Pa Prep Live article linked above: Kaitlyn Flanagan was constantly in the spotlight, but thrived by never hoarding it for herself. In nearly every pivotal play of Plymouth Whitemarsh’s perfect 34-0 season and even more so in the postseason, Flanagan was there, usually right on the edges of that spotlight giving the shine to someone else by simply playing her part. If the Colonials were the show, then the senior point guard was the conductor – the one making it all go without needing to be the center of attention. The Colonials’ ringleader proved indispensable, the engine of the state’s best team in its largest classification and capped a stellar high school career in the most fitting way possible, utterly dominating the state championship game while only scoring one basket.

Hoops is first and foremost a team game. Low scoring, weak shooting Warrior Draymond Green is headed to the Hall of Fame. 1950s NY Knick Dick McGuire made 7 All Star games averaging 8 ppg for his career.

I think it's less about what her ceiling is and more about the players the coaches recruit around her. She's certainly a natural "run your team / coach on the floor PG". In order for the team to be successful she'll need to play with four other kids who look for / can create their own offense and be able to make open shots when necessary. Thinking of her "ceiling" being similar to what Kasey Chambers was like at Penn - someone who won't light it up but a kid who can lead to to a title as long as she has the right kids on her side.

Should make for a very interesting year. Have an experienced core group coming back w/Cross, McCormack, BPC & Allen. Munt looked pretty decent before the injury bug got her. Obviously, they are going to be relying fairly heavily on some mix of the 2 untested raising sophs Berger & Huber as well as the incoming 4 frosh & perhaps a transfer or 2. Its unfortunate that Davis decided to leave as I think she would have had a good opportunity to earn a fair amount of playing time. BU, Bucknell & Lehigh look to be the preseason favorites, AU would have been but with their transfer loses, the will be in rebuild mode also. Loyola seemingly lost everybody. Army, Navy & Lafayette look to be solid, Colgate is always a mystery.

At this point I think Allen is our best shot of having a go to scorer like we got used to the last six years with Manis and Labarbera. She has good touch around the basket. With Avery in Madison, perhaps the other returning rotation players will blossom. We do appear to have an above average coaching staff, which always helps.
