Watching yesterday's game, the announcers remarked there was still standing water on the field near the Holy Cross sideline, and they had no explanation for why it hadn't drained.. Well, they did actually, they opined the field surface is uneven and there were shallow depressions, here and there. They also said that during the suspension of play, squeegees were used to push water off the surface. The standing water made the surface as slippery as a skating rink. They also noted that the surface remained so wet that the Fordham QB would take the ball and dry it with his own towel. I recall that the announcers also said the surface was like playing on concrete; i.e., there is no cushion, and the 'fibers' have either worn away or are matted down. I have watched two games on that field this year, and I have yet to see rubber crumbs being kicked up. Crumbs are used for cushioning. If the rain hadn't quickly stopped, the wet surface might have become truly unplayable, with players slipping and sliding as Oliver did on a pass play. This field was installed in 2014, and is used for football, soccer, softball (outfield), and intramurals. It needs to be replaced, or re-conditioned, because it simply is a terrible field in its present state. Here's hoping that we keep our natural grass surface for the rest of my days. We probably don't see a better surface all year, but our guys are lucky to have Fitton five (or so) times a year.

The Soccer lines near the end zone line confused the announcer. The scoreboard saying second and two instead of second and goal confused him, too. But these small imperfections are a trade off to play against great schools in the PL. Would love to see Fordham sneak into the tournament at 7-2 in FCS. Only shot for Fordham to get in at 7-4 is if URI, William & Mary and Northern Iowa all lose next week (probably and then some)-- and Monmouth wins. If Monmouth expectedly loses to Kennessaw State next week, no way you could give Fordham an at-large over a Monmouth team they lost to head-to-head. 6-5 Northern Iowa gets in before 7-4 Fordham IMO. Appreciate the thoughts but there is ZERO chance a team from a conference like the PL gets a 2nd team in imo.

The only scenario that even gets Fordham (7-2 FCS) in the conversation is if all of the following lose: Northern Iowa, VMI, URI, William & Mary, Monmouth. Even then, the optics of a blowout loss to Holy Cross don't help. And you guys still have a road game to win in Hamilton.

Actually, the MVFC five are ND State, Missouri State, Southern Ill, South Dakota and SD State. ND State is 9-1, the others are all 7-3. The best UNI or North Dakota can do is 6-5.
The best bet for a loss among that group is S Dakota playing ND State. If all 5 end up 8-3 or better, I bet they all get in.

They'd certainly have a much better resume than a 7-4 Monmouth or 7-4 VMI.

Good Work Fordham. The above link brings one to the Rams athletic website and one of the news releases is for the Fordham Golf Outing in October at Winged Foot. I wondered just how high they could price that for one golfer, but I was still surprised. When I saw the cost I felt like Phil Hartman's unfrozen caveman lawyer from SNL: "I know nothing of your ways." Before checking, anyone care to guess the price?

I am sending a note to a former colleague who is a Fordham graduate, and whose daughter just graduated last week from Fordham to see if he will be participating in the tournament.
I can’t wait for his response 🤣

My guess is that the tab would be approximately equal to the Holy Cross outing at Baltusrol -- $1,500.

Friends of the Jesuits golf outing is $1,250 at Quaker Ridge (right across the street) in September and looks like a better relative value. Superb course and the food is also excellent.

The campus ministry department is piggy backing on the Winged Foot tournament for fundraising. They probably figure their own golf outing would draw less than a pay toilet in downtown Glasgow.🙂
