We should have scheduled the Coast Guard Academy as one of our D-3 games. It's likely no other team has ever beaten all four Service Academies in the same season, or even played all four in one season. Not a bad idea. Coast Guard is D2 though I believe, not D3.

The idea of getting to play against all of the academies does sound appealing.

Actually five federal service academies — USMMA, Kings Point, NY. (D-3)

Aren't they quasi-military meaning during war they become a military branch? When you see honor guards they aren't represented (that I am aware of). Sometimes even the Coast Guard is not. Oh, when will we see the establishment of a Space Force Academy? Any time soon? I suspect when the Air Force split from the Army Air Corps that some weren't wild about that idea. Perhaps in 10-20 years from now it'll be considered the norm for a Space Force but seems to simply be a branch of the Air Force . . . . just higher.

Some pilots were not thrilled with the Air Force as a separate branch. They had been part of the Army Air Corps and many still thought of themselves that way. They saw Navy and Marine aviators as still part of the branches within which they were formed and wondered why they had been separated.

My dad was co-pilot of a B-26, the Privy Donna. IT'S NOSE ART SHOWED AN OUTHOUSE WITH A STRING OF BOMBS COMING OUT THE BOTTOM...ONE FOR EACH MISSION. It was unique enough that it is shown in a number of books about the USAAC. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) PS: Nicknames for that plane included "The Flying Prostitute" (since its short wings gave it "no visible means of support"). It was difficult to fly and the saying at the training area in Pensacola was "One a day into the bay."

Well, we've really got this thread derailed . . . . but since we are going down that path, your B-26 story triggered a memory because reading it quickly, I initially thought you had written a B-25 (Mitchell) which was the bomber that crashed into the Empire State Building and what first came to my mind on 9/11/2001 when the first plane hit the WTC. As it turned out in 1945, one of my father's aunts happened to be on the street below when the bomber hit the ESB but she was fine. www.history.com/this-day-in-history/plane-crashes-into-empire-state-buildingOh, and my uncle (HC '43 - centennial class) served with the Army Air Corps in China. Believe he was a tech sgt.

The USCG is a branch of the military (USMM is not) but is under DHS in peacetime. That said, in the recent years, the CG has been much more involved in so-called gray-zone operations, particularly in the the Western Pacific, and CG officers are sometimes detailed to USN ships for various reasons. USMAA graduates must either serve as a reserve officer in the Armed Forces, or serve as an active duty officer in any of the nation’s military branches.

Aren't these guys supposed to fit into fighter jets? Are there no longer height and weight limits at the service academies? My recollection is that the only reason that David "the Admiral" Robinson was at the USNA at his height was that he had a huge growth spurt after arriving there. Nominal height maximum for a service academy is 6-8. . However all of the academies are willing to give waivers to taller athletes. In recent years, both army and navy have had a number of players taller than 6-8.

My dad started in the Navy and left his senior year and became a fighter pilot in the Air Force- that made me a military brat and doing 14 schools in 12 years. He also had a split intelligence career with the Military and later with the CIA.
I committed to e USAFA with six others that I spent time with growing up, but on June 10 I pulled out before my report date of June 21? I wanted to find out who I was outside of a military experience and Holy Cross was perfect!
My alternate and friend was Dan Moldea, who opted to decline given a full scholarship to zipper u- u of Akron or our hometown. Dan became a big time investigative reporter for Jack Anderson and has identified where Hoffa is buried.
Colorado Springs is wonderful, but agree the campus is not as moving as West Point or Annapolis

As Bob would have said, first basketball meeting ever between these fine institutions.
We have played Coast Guard twice, 1944 and 1946, splitting the two games.

Becoming an Admiral in the CG is heady stuff. My father retired as a Captain in the CG and always felt, without any rancor, that it was difficult (but not impossible) to become an Admiral unless you went to the CG Academy.

That still leaves 4 Frosh in top 8.
