I watched this event. It was very interesting, very well done. It reinforced my opinion of PVR as a thoughtful and brilliant man.

I plan to take this in when I can, although I read Ross Douthat every week in the NYT and find him consistently infuriating.

My rare admirations pale in comparison to my deep annoyances

I don't have a lot of familiarity with this gentleman but know of him slightly but not well enough to remember whether his thoughts would please or upset me. But, Chu, for you to consistently find him infuriating yet still read him every week, I have to salute you for putting into practice what you learned at Holy Cross and/or elsewhere, to be open to opposing ideas. Either that or you are using it as a form of penance (Catholic version) or just plain masochistic.

To me, Douthat in the video looked a bit out of sorts physically. I had read his NY Times essay several weeks ago of his battle with chronic Lyme disease. His struggles with his health is chronicled here: slate.com/technology/2021/10/chronic-lyme-ross-douthat-treatments-woo-woo.htmlBut perhaps I am associating too much. On a related front, with so many coming down with long-COVID. the NIH is throwing about $1.2 billion into research on long-COVID and other chronic conditions, such as Lyme, and chronic fatigue syndrome. So perhaps answers and treatments may follow. And when I write "throw", I mean that literally. COVID has opened the monetary floodgates, and the research that is being funded may lead to answers far sooner than what would result from the relatively small funding amounts for such research authorized until now. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/11/07/long-covid-fatigue-research/

I'm sure that's 90 minutes plus well spent. But I went to a symposium at HC several years ago "The Church that can change and can not change". It was a weekend affair. After all was said and done, the title had said it all. But the food was good.
