Fr. Dunn passed on Thursday, November 18, 2021. I'm sure there are many stories that can be told about Fr. Dunn and his tenure at HC. He certainly was an imposing figure at HC! May he rest in peace and enjoy everlasting and eternal life!!! www.telegram.com/obituaries/wt0077895

My dad died in March of my freshman year. When I returned to HC after the funeral, I checked my mailbox (#310) and saw a note to see Fr. Dunn. Oh no ! What could I have done ? I was in mortal fear of the man. I gingerly knocked on his door in Lower Kimball. He was sitting behind this huge desk. He greeted me with a warm smile, An expression I had not seen in the seven months I was at HC. He said to sit down, then gently and caringly told me how sorry he was about my dad. He asked about my mom. Fr. Dunn said that if he could do anything to help my readjustment to school to please ask. This man I had feared had been the right person who said the exact right words at a most needy time in my life, At our 50th reunion in 2017 I reminded him of how much his words had meant to that grief laden freshman..
Requiescat in pace, Father Dunn.

A week ago, I read an now-dated report on the college by Fr. B., and he briefly covered the Jesuit community. He said that Fr. Dunn had moved to Campion, would have been 2018-19, and that he was 97 years old. Almost a centenarian when died. RIP.

May his soul rest in peace with the prayers of the many men whose lives he helped to shape. Thank you Fr. Dunn.

Lucky enough to get to know Fr Dunn years ago when he worked with my dad in the early days of the school's Estate Planning Committee.
Shortly before my dad passed away Fr Dunn, without being asked, came to the hospital and administered the Sacrament of the Sick

That is the type of man many of us knew him to be...he handed out more than just days on Dawn Patrol.

Unfortunately I didn't know Fr. Dunn but he sounds like an amazing man. I'm curious, though, were there offices in Lower Kimball? I always knew it just as a dining hall.

Unfortunately I didn't know Fr. Dunn but he sounds like an amazing man. I'm curious, though, were there offices in Lower Kimball? I always knew it just as a dining hall. The bookstore, the post office & the Dean of Men's office were on the level below the dining hall... the next lower level the cafeteria... the baseball locker room in the basement It all changed with the opening of the Hogan Campus Center... not sure about the locker room

Fr. Dunn was a great guy. Got to know him well back in the 80's. An avid golfer, his nickname was 5 net 4. He even had tees made up that said "5 net 4". I knew what I was in for on the first tee when he handed me a tee!! LOL......RIP, FR Dunn.

I note that Fr Dunn's obit lists him as 'Honorary Colonel ROTC Program'. Both the Air Force & the Navy programs provided flying lessons. He began flying lessons in the late '60s. I believe he & Fr Riedy were charter members of the HC Flying Club.
I became re acquainted with Fr Dunn in the early 2000's when we had lunch in Worcester. Although neither of us were flying anymore we both shared that interest. I was serving on the Worcester Airport Commission.
He talked fondly about his time teaching in Bagdad. He said the Muslim community entrusted their students to the Jesuits because they did not 'proselytize' them.

To the many members of the esteemed class of 2011 and similar years, Fr. Dunn was a wise, jolly old mentor who dressed up as Santa Claus for the Tree Lighting. Can't imagine him as Dean of Men! I imagine a man of his stature must have been quite intimidating. My favorite class at HC was Christology was Fr. Brooks several years before his passing. Again, he was a wise old professor and mentor who encouraged my graduate studies (demanding still!), but I can't imagine him as a President staring down the Ivies and Big East.
