Article from their exhibition loss to Columbia.
New York, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team was in action on Saturday afternoon, but not in a typical matchup. The Dolphins were pitted against Division I Columbia University in an exhibition game to see how the they stack up against superior competition. CMSV battled valiantly throughout the 40 minutes of play but ultimately lost by the score of 87-62.
In what has become a theme early on this season, junior transfer Dan Porcic led all Dolphins in scoring with 14 points. The Putnam, Connecticut native shot 33% from beyond the arc while also adding three rebounds to the stat sheet. Senior Kelvin Turner-Harris also finished in double figures as he went two of three from deep, good for 10 points.
Shakirro Samuels was all over the court for the Dolphins, as his six rebounds and two steals both paced the team. Senior Kalos Evans completed his afternoon with another filled stat sheet (nine points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist). As a whole, the Dolphins's bench outscored Columbia's bench by 10 points while also recording more blocks.
The next game on the schedule for the Dolphins will be another exhibition, as they travel to Massachusettes to take on Holy Cross.

For Nelson it's a real game, for them an exhibition Is that the case for all NCAA DII/DIII teams that play on the road at a DI?

I know we are desperate for wins but this playing this game is just ridiculous.

In my book, we are currently 0-4 on the season.

Fun Fact: CMSV averages 24.5 turnovers per game, 405th in D3.
Believe we have the edge here.

When they played Columbia they were bad, and defensively Columbia is lacking right now

Believe we have the edge here. I pray we don't take that as a challenge.... We are all being driven to gallows humor.....

As I said a week or so ago, cannot see any reason why this game was scheduled.
Similar games are played as season openers and after a break (like exams)...having one a couple days after being on the road and in front of what will be absolutely NOBODY is very puzzling. Perhaps to work off the next day's Thanksgiving meal?

A rare open date for both teams ?

A common open date would seem like a reasonable explanation for the game...but not on Crossports. Here everything can be seen as part of a conspiracy.

This will be the first ever meeting between the Dolphins and the Crusaders.
Keep an eye on 5-8 PG Dorian Robinson, reportedly quick and savvy. Faster than lightning - and no one you see is smarter than he.

Faster than lightning - and no one you see is smarter than he. based on the first half against Columbia Defensively they play a 2-3 zone and take away the post and cutters to the bucket. They leave foul line extended and up open for good looks at a three. ‘’offensively patient but aggressive at the end of the shot clock not a strong shooting team

Good luck to the Crusaders! Hopefully we get Nelson that much closer to that career .200 mark.
CMSV is battle tested in the sense that they've already played two teams that sre likely stronger than Holy Cross (Columbia and Yeshiva). They played Yeshiva tightly for a half before going onto lose by 30 points.

Perhaps to work off the next day's Thanksgiving meal? I also have no interest in playing D2/D3 games, but this next one couldn’t come at a better time for a young team that desperately needs a confidence boost to reset momentum on the season. Take care of business Wednesday, get healthy, beat UNH and Central CT, and all of a sudden it’s December 1st and we have some momentum to carry into the final 5 OOC games. I’m typically in the nhteamer camp of playing anyone, anywhere, but that would not be the right strategy for this year’s team.

When the going gets tough, schedule Mt. St. Vincent and Central Connecticut.
UNH is likely going to be a challenge. They played Providence to a five point game and were competitive with Marquette, before losing 69-58.
How they perform against Quinnipiac on Tuesday will be a good indicator whether or not we have a chance at being competitive or if we'll struggle to keep it to single digits.
Difficult to see this team go into league play with more than two wins against D1 opponents.

The December schedule is a lot tougher than November. I thought we had a chance to be 4-1 at this point and projected a 1-5 month of December. You know what thought did.

Think it's going to be a struggle to score against UNH.
I never LIKE having games against non D1 teams, but it does seem to be happening quite a bit more than usual across college hoops this year. And our team, imho, desperately needs to play games at this juncture. Minutes, minutes, minutes, no matter how painful they may be to our eyes right now.

Nelson wants to see improvement at every practice. We only have visibility to games and want to see improvement with each game. So far I haven't noticed much

It will be a big boost if RJJ can play against MTSV so the team can get used to his leadership role in a game situation before we take on UNH
