Think it's going to be a struggle to score against UNH. I never LIKE having games against non D1 teams, but it does seem to be happening quite a bit more than usual across college hoops this year. And our team, imho, desperately needs to play games at this juncture. Minutes, minutes, minutes, no matter how painful they may be to our eyes right now. The women's team at HC is playing Conn College tonight who is 1-3 with losses to Husson, Roger Williams, and usually solid Emmanuel. The only win was over Wheaton.

As I said a week or so ago, cannot see any reason why this game was scheduled. Similar games are played as season openers and after a break (like exams)...having one a couple days after being on the road and in front of what will be absolutely NOBODY is very puzzling. Perhaps to work off the next day's Thanksgiving meal? Relax. What could go wrong?

How about we take all the money we spend on men's basketball and instead install permanent lights at Fitton --

lol. Remember, installing permanent lights at fitton may trigger the need to bring all Fitton Field specs up to current standards/regulations. That could cost a good deal more than lights.

Coach wants to go back to Polar Park soon according to his email summing up the season to date. Chesney is the first person who was actually a Worcester resident when hired to be head coach of a major sport in quite a while, so I think he is extra motivated to bring town and gown together. If we play one evening game at Polar per season that doesn't leave many night games left for Fitton.
It's important to bring in new younger fans but also not to lose the older loyal base so you'd think HC wouldn't want to take away all afternoon games. Plus if HC wants to challenge itself to get better and better and needs revenue to fund the improvement, it makes sense to kill two birds with one stone and challenge an FBS team once per season. So that leaves four home games at a stadium which because of impeccable natural grass and ancient dimensions isn't suitable for the multi sport activity other schools leverage their permanent lights investment over.
So I am in the camp of one night game a year at Polar and use any lighting investment to retain and reward the staff for now.
But I don't know how complicated and expensive permanent lights are. It could be an item that could be fund raised specifically for as it is something tangible, visible and finite as opposed to salaries, recruiting budgets, etc.

Why spend the dollars to install lights now, in a facility that will need a major remodel within the next decade?
If installed for next season, at most we are looking at no more than 15 to 20 games at Fitton between 2022 and 2032.
Installing lights now at Fitton would not be money well spent. Better to allocate to staff salaries to reinforce the program and to play one night game a year at Polar Park. In the past, it gets a bit nippy in October for night games.
When the frost is on the Pumpkin....It’s not time for night games and sitting at Fitton 🥶

I wonder what the plan is going forward for minor league ball. This year the schedule ran through September but I'm not sure if that was a one-time-only thing or what they're going to do going forward (the traditional MiLB schedules ran through Labor Day and then a week or two of playoffs; over and done by around 9/15).
'twould be nice to have the night game at Polar 2 or 3 weeks earlier; this was a relatively mild fall; the warmer on the average the better.

Permanent lights! Be helpful with our Worcester outreach and bring us out of the stone age.

My guess is no lights at Fitton until and if someone comes in and pays the full boat so essentially TPTB can't say no. And who among us (not Crossporters, really, we're all too penniless) has both the money and the fixation that the best use of those financial resources is for lighting?

For what it's worth, I hate the idea of a mid week game at 1:00. This will be a rare Hart Center miss for me because of that whole work thing

Email from Coach Nelson
We are so excited basketball season is back! It was great to have fans back in the Hart center for our opening win against Regis. As we transition back to a more "normal" season, we need YOU to give us that home court advantage when opponents come to Mount Saint James.
I really like the makeup of our team this year. We have a good mix of young talent and experience and we are excited to continue to grow every single day.
As we get back to full strength in the next couple of weeks, we look forward to finishing the non-conference schedule strong. We have a great slate of games highlighted by home games vs. New Hampshire (Nov. 27) and Siena (Dec. 11).
With Thanksgiving coming up, we will continue to stress to our team the importance of giving and being grateful for everything in their lives. Our team motto is “Attack and Serve” and we live that on and off the floor.
As always, we appreciate your support of Holy Cross Basketball! We hope you'll consider making a gift to our program, or the Crusader Athletics Fund, on Giving Tuesday, coming up on November 30. Your support helps us to fund many areas of our program and continues to make a significant impact on the success of our student-athletes, on and off the court.
Hope to see you all soon. Happy Thanksgiving!
Go Cross! Brett Nelson

I’ve been seeing a lot of promos highlighting the free admission for the game from HC on my e-mail and social media. But, I haven’t seen any mention of the proof of vaccination requirement in any of them. I hope this doesn’t cause problems for too many people.
