You have to have a qb who can throw the football when playing against good teams. +1 There is a ceiling on the program without a starting QB who can throw a slant to a WR for a 1st down.

You have to have a qb who can throw the football when playing against good teams. Supposedly we have one in Siderman but we haven't given him much activity in the last two games. That's a small disappointment.

You have to have a qb who can throw the football when playing against good teams. That and quickness at the RB position are the two issues holding us back on offense. I do think Sluka can improve.

Have many thoughts, but I wish we opened up the offensive playbook in the first half as much as we did in the second when we absolutely needed to. It seems like Chesney wants to play things conservative on offense until we have no choice but to be more aggressive.
Two big blunders in my mind: 1) That debacle of a sequence at the end of the first half when Ng missed a hurried field goal. 2) Settling for a field goal on 4th and 1 from inside Nova's ten yardline when we were on the verge of knotting the game at 14. It was 3rd and 1 and we had been maneuvering their defensive line in the early part of the 3rd quarter. We had two chances to get one yard and we didn't. Nova then had a big return and scored a touchdown shortly thereafter. That was a backbreaker.
All that said, we had the ball on the plus side of the field late in the 4th quarter with a chance to win it.
Could we have asked for anything more than that?

I just wish we had a few more running plays on that last possession - once we were in Villanova territory.
Woulda, shoulda, coulda.
A tough loss, but a great season. AND a very promising future.
Congratulations to the entire team. Thank you. You made us all proud.

No new thoughts that haven’t already been said about the game. Very proud of the way our young men represented the College. Already looking forward to next season.

This is sad. Nova is not any better than we are. The missed FG, bad coaching decisions in the first half, and Dobbs injury killing us It was a solid performance, yes it hurt losing Dobbs, and the Coaches made decisions on every play-some brilliant, some good, and others by the staff and players not so much. A terrific game, played with heart and emotion on both sides, and an outcome that we might not want but can live with. We continue to get better, and next season, if things break the right way we are back in the playoffs and get to the quarters or semis ---part of the Chesney process. I am not sure how many on this board, the Administration, and the BOT, would have predicted 10-3 Congratulations to the coaches, staff, players and their families for a very good year!

It may be from having a week off but I was not that impressed with Villanova. This was a winnable game for HC.
Curious what others think, but how does Harvard compare to Villanova? I am curious how the better IVY league teams would fare if they were on the playoffs.

I guess you must have missed this press release: "The Division I Gold Helmet award, which is presented to the most valuable player across all Division I programs in New England, was awarded to Sluka."

Maybe that 4th down call was influenced (a lot) by the failure to get 2 or 3 yards in 2 plays in the first quarter.

The top Ivies could get to the round of 16 without a doubt.

We went 6 quarters without a non-Hail Mary touchdown and couldn’t beat a team whose QB was 8-22 for 133 yards.

+1 - really a terrific effort all around - really proud of the players and coaches and support staff - game plan was executed well with keeping Nova's offense off the field as we had wide margin in TOP Sluka with 275 yards total offense - 106 on the ground and 169 through the air - he was such a better passer tonight, throwing on the run into tight coverage (although he has to develop a better deep throw)
next game at Buffalo Sep 3

One thing that may not have been mentioned yet is that we only had 2 penalties for 10 yards. We need to be that disciplined if we want to beat top 5 teams. Great job by the team keeping its composure when it seemed like Nova was trying to bait us into losing it. Nova has 7 penalties for 50 yards and several others that weren’t called.

Whatever the bid process is to host these playoff games should include a stipulation that you can’t set up your cameras at the 30 yard lines like this. What a rinky dink broadcast setup. Lack of height (the stands, that is) has to make televising from there a challenge.

Credit to our team. They played their hearts out. I feel bad for Dobbs. What a playmaker!
Still, those coaching decisions in the first half, going for it instead of taking the 3 and then waiting to long and rushing Ng cost us the game. Love HCBC but those 6 points were the difference. Would have been 22-21 us.
Sluka is a great playmaker. Love his heart, his effort but Sluka's arm hurt us down the stretch.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but BC and Sluka blew this one for us.
We can pat ourselves on the back for a moral victory and what a great season yadda yadda yadda. I bet NDSU or SDSU didn't do that last year. Close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades.

My wife says I'm too critical sometimes but all I ask is that everyone plays (and coaches)to their potential and then gives just a little more. Maybe I'm asking too much of a Patriot League participant at a strong academic school without graduate students. I'm very grateful for our success but not willing to rest.

Some caught, some dropped, but clearly a kid with a great arm. Haven’t watched a ton of HC football this year, but was at the game last week and watched tonight. I’m impressed.

What a game! We showed the FCS we can play right with #5 Villanova. Without our best player Dobbs in the second half. Sluka always gives you a chance to win I thought he was really good again.
I am sad we lost but that was a statement to all the doubters. They ate the crow this week.
Finally put it to bed that this football team is a bear that nobody wants to play!

Only on Crossports can you find someone who loves Brett Nelson and hates Matt Sluka and Austin Butler.
