Only on Crossports can you find someone who loves Brett Nelson and hates Matt Sluka and Austin Butler. Actually, what’s even more bizarre is liking Brett Nelson and not liking Bob Chesney. Really strange.

First thing Monday morning the school should give Chesney and staff a 25% case and a one year extension. The new AD can adjust upward once on the payroll.

No sense in piling on in the immediate aftermath of the end of our season. We had a great year and are likely going to be in the top 20 in the country to start next season. Meanwhile, in Men’s Basketball, we’re going to win half as many games as the football team did if we’re lucky. Over the past three years, hoops has 8 D1 wins. This year, football had 10 wins. Time to focus the anger where it belongs.

Team played great not much to critique besides inability to throw ball. That’s an opportunity next year and coaches will figure it out. Fantastic year. Have a merry Christmas!!

Made the trip to Philly. A nice night for football, not cold at all. Big turnout of HC fans, including the new President. Winnable game. I won’t rehash what’s been said here already, but HC was as good as Villanova. A few coaching calls failed, but that’s football. They left it all on the field.

Chesney is the only guy on the Hill today who has an idea what it means to be a player from Holy Cross...the rest of our sports programs are a joke....

Bravo to the team for a tremendous season.......as a basketball first guy, I am more than a little envious of what they've accomplished! Just love the steady progression the program has made since Coach Chesney took over. Looking under seat cushions right now for any spare change I can donate to the cause.

Will that be enough or will have move onto a coordinator position at a Power 5 school?? Does he head to LSU to join Kelly's staff? There is absolutely nothing in his background that suggests he’d be a strong (or even mediocre) candidate for either a head offensive or head defensive coordinator at a Power 5 school. There are avenues of advancement towards a big school head coach position for Chesney, just not that one. Another poster thought he could try to take the Moorehead route from PL to big time …completely different bio since the former quarterback had served as a very successful FBS offensive coordinator prior to success as HC at Fordham. I know Kelly’s had some well-publicized issues bringing ND staffers to LSU but can’t see a realistic role for BC on the staff (even if BC was willing to consider a non-head coach move). I do agree his stock is very high right now - and surely he knows it may never be higher (a 4th PL title with a winning record and a first round win won’t move him any higher …and lots can easily happen next year to kill his stock).

On a different note, our foot speed at the running back position really caught up to us in the last two very tough games. Our leading running back in both games netted 15 yards v SHU and 39 v Nova. (I’m not saying we’re slow v PL competition…and I know Sluka runs well…but we just don’t have a burner back there.)

Lest we forget: In addition to our playing the second half of last night’s game without the PL Defensive Player of the Year, we won our first ever post-season game, and were within a whisker of winning a second, without season-long and primary-rotation running back Tyler Purdy.

IMO, if Dobbs wasn’t injured and played the second half, we would have won. With him in, we made stops we couldn’t make in the second half. Field position would have been different and better.
I’m proud of the guys. Great season and we’ll be even better next season.

I think they deserve much more than that Agree, I would double the salaries with a three year extension, but didn't want to wait for a new AD to do something. Thought the recognition by our college President would be a great move and be a placeholder for December And case was increase just fat fingers and auto correct

The only potential job Chesney could take on a 1-A staff is Special Teams Coordinator. Interestingly enough, the individual who previously had that role for Kelly at ND is supposedly the next Head Coach at Lafayette

Is that issue really about RB foot speed or defenses not having to respect our passing offense, especially on early downs? I don’t know enough about football schemes to tell, but you often hear announcers talk about defenses committing extra guys to the box if they don’t respect the pass, and I’m assuming that’s often the case vs HC.

1. I think you meant "1-A" as he's already a head coach in "I-AA." 2. Chesney is not going anywhere. He's got things he still wants to accomplish at Holy Cross. 3. I still believe there are a few smart people atop the hill and I am confident that we will soon see an extension and significant raise for the only coach who is consistently winning.

Cool! We went 6 quarters without a non-Hail Mary touchdown and couldn’t beat a team whose QB was 8-22 for 133 yards. As good as Sluka is and with his tenacity and hard- nosed style of play, I’d expect you to brand him as a Division-3 player Give me a break with all of this crap. He’s 6’3/215. D3 - please. The QB from Nova sucks - that’s who sucks. HC just went toe to toe with the 5 team in the nation and should have won. Yes - 100% he needs to become a better passer. Because every team will load up the box on them next year from play #1. The QB is a freshman eligibility wise who will just get better. I like HCs chances moving forward. My issue remains with recruiting this class for HC moving forward. They have 10 days to get fish in the boat to help with continued success.

Regarding Chesney and his future - to me right now the most realistic job is Delaware. Great conference, great stadium, solid roster that is 8 months removed from the National Semi Finals. And the job pays 400k+
I’ve gone on the Delaware football board and his name is not at the top of the list by their alum. Ryan Canty - Sam Houston OC and Delaware alum tops their list. Delawares biggest issue is offense right now.
