Just got me a box of hand and toe warmers from a fine retail firm based in Freeport, Maine. Coupled with a blanket and a thermal undershirt, I think I will be ready for the elements. Go Cross!

56 x 4 = 224 seats. I think the NCAA took the size of some football players into account in the bus allowance. For most sports, the allowance is one bus, as the official party is often less than 40. And there is less allowance for open seats when it comes to plane charters, or traveling commercial (unless you charter the Kraft Air Force at a discount). You are not allowed to sell tickets on the plane to boosters if the charter aircraft has more seats than the official party allowance. Are there different rules for football than basketball and/or have the rules changed since 2016? I was thrilled to have been offered the opportunity to purchase a seat on the charter flight to Dayton, Spokane and back to Worcester! One of the best purchases I ever made!!! But, maybe they didn't consider me a "booster"!!! Apparently so. The NCAA travel handbook, updated three days ago, explicitly states there is to be no sale of any extra seats on a charter aircraft. All aircraft charters are billed directly to the NCAA, not the school, and the NCAA has a contract with one company only to supply the charters. I assume one or more schools had the bright idea of selling seats that were available because of unused capacity and pocketing the money. The NCAA also set limits on the number of bandmembers, cheerleaders, etc. who could be members of the official traveling party. These provisions don't apply to FBS bowl-bound schools, as they do their own chartering, and the NCAA doesn't pony up a penny.

Author looks about 14 years old. Any idea if he knows anything about these teams other than stats?

He's been covering FCS for quite a while along with Brian McLaughlin - but he never gives the PL much credibility.

We will need an intermediate passing game - very concerned about those slant routes that Sluka had a lot of trouble with - the ‘Nova db’s will not drop balls thrown at them Will Siderman be a factor in this game with the temps in the high 30’s

Interesting that Villanova's lack of an AI apparently hasn't harmed their academic reputation or graduation rates for athletes -- Yes. Leaving some discretion in the hands of the college president to make a case-by-case close call at a place like Nova or Richmond or William and Mary (or Stanford or…) strikes me as common sense. And our academic reputation was higher before we had the AI. If Villanova smacks us around there will certainly be questions as to whether the PL (AI, non-medical redshirts, roster limits) is a roadblock to top tier FCS. Of course, if we win that is a hopeful message in the other direction. I’d like to see us (and PL) make the changes necessary to facilitate FBS schollie transfers into HC. My biggest complaint with the Patriot League is the AI; implies these fine institutions don't trust each other.

On the AI note, does Fordham have to follow the AI for football as a football only member? I am usually the one banging the CAA drum loudly but I would happily blare a trumpet for a new Yankee Conference if AI does not enter the conversation.
On another note I think our DB's are better than that of Bill and Mary's. I do not know about their line which also wrecked havoc on Nova and forced some poor throws into coverage, but I generally like out pass rush. Going to be a good one!

Hope they get a chance to toot their horn in Philly. Any word on that?

The AI also smacks of an attempt to increase academic standing via regulation which probably can't be done. It could keep out some good athletes with lower scores perhaps but the attendant suckitude on the playing field vs other leagues probably cancels that small advantage. High academic achievers have multiple choices so why dim the overall appeal of your school by being very poor in one public facing component (athletics)?

On another note, a Catholic friend, not an HC grad and definitely not a football fan of any kind, suggested I allay my anxiety about the game by praying to St. Sebastian as the patron saint of athletes.

YES! Although I must say I like to think we have more than a prayer against Villanova. The school I teach at is named after famed soldier and athlete St. Sebastian. We do have a solid athletics program.

Fordham and Georgetown both have to follow the AI The other fine institutions in the PL have grown on me and would worry about leaving them in a difficult spot. But am thinking of another way for HC to attempt to shine regionally each year. Since there are now (12?) FCS schools in New England (H, Y, D, B, Bryant, URI, CCSU, SHU, HC, Merrimack, UNH, Maine) how about a Lambert Cup type award at the end of the regular season for the best FCS team in New England? I'm thinking a Sterling Silver Paul Revere Bowl with the names of the winning school, captains and coach inscribed each year. That would also give the Ivies something to shoot for since they have unilaterally disarmed from competing for a national championship. If the standings are voted on each week during the season by the NE sporting media it would also generate discussion and interest as New England has enough teams to become an FCS center of interest with a little priming of the pump.

Just went through the 30 Team Stats listed on Any Given Saturday. Looks like we have a razor thin 16-14 advantage. This is similar to some of our stats vs. SHU, which I discounted. Based on the pick 'em poll on AGS (Villanova 89%-11%), I'd say most people are discounting the PL and our body of work. Let's hope we can shock them all! I like our Red Zone score percentage 89.1 % (11 in FCS), and TD percentage 82.6% (1).
