Me! But I used to live there near Western Connecticut and then had a condo near Eastern Connecticut. But if you aren't from the Nutmeg State, you'd certainly be excused from knowing that.
Could be worse. When I traveled around the country on business, especially west and south and I'd be asked where my office was and said Rhode Island, I was often asked: "Oh, what state is that in?"

CCSU message board
This will be only the third meeting between the Crusaders and the Blue Devils on the hardwood. In the first game, Holy Cross posted a 58-52 victory in Waterbury, Conn., on March 16, 1947. That contest marked the last regular season game for the Crusaders before they went on to win the 1947 NCAA Tournament. The schools then played on Jan. 2, 2010, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., with Holy Cross winning 70-53.

From CCSU board
"Can CCSU put together a good 40 minutes? Over their last six games, they've been outscored by just 1-point in the 1st half, and by 64 points in the 2nd half (plus overtime). On Sunday against Fordham, the Blue Devils led 46-34 with 15 minutes left before losing in double OT. At Quinnipiac they had a 2 point halftime lead; they were ahead by 1 at intermission against NC State; and led by 8 against Brown with ~14 minutes remaining. Plus, in the win over Maine, they were outscored by 2 in the 2nd half. Normally I'd chalk it up to players getting tired, but Sellers has consistently gone 11 players deep, and no single player is averaging more than 27.4 mpg."

I hope Cooz has ESPN+ and can watch the games. He'd have a nice memory if the announcers mention the 1947 tidbit.
Oops, it's on NEC front row, everyone can watch.

CCSU board Game was played at the Waterbury Armory.
According to newspaper reports at the time, this game was announced on Feb. 28, after both teams completed their regular season. New Britain State Teachers College (as they were called by the media) were 18-2 and Holy Cross was selected as the 8th (and final) team for the NCAA Tourney.
I think it was scheduled as a tune-up game for the Crusaders (at a neutral site) to keep them fresh in preparation for their upcoming tourney.
Future NBA legend Bob Cousey was on that team. HC would beat Navy, CCNY, and Oklahoma all by bigger margins than they beat New Britain to win the National Championship.

It's so embarrassing that we cannot come close to even the lowest benchmarks.
Maybe we will in the second half

Up until last year the actual name of the state was Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

There are in fact some small islands in RI, notably Block Island and a couple of others. However, thatâs like saying the state of New York is an island because of Long Island, Manhattan and Staten Island (or Roosevelt Island) or Massachusetts because of Nantucket and Marthaâs Vineyard.
The vast majority of RI is mainland.

This state was named by Dutch explorer Adrian Block. He named it "Roodt Eylandt" meaning "red island" in reference to the red clay that lined the shore. The name was later anglicized when the region came under British rule.

I agree with Mrs. sader 1970. Newport also is one of my favorite places to visit. A lot of good memories.
How about a HC campus on Aquidneck Island.
After last nightâs game....it is easy to have this thread digress. On to Philly for the HC doubleheader weekend.
