American went from the penthouse to the outhouse from Tuesday to Thursday. It doesn't generate confidence about HC. I guess our hope is superior off season skill improvement and recruiting compared to the other conference teams to make up some ground. We can hardly hope to improve by swapping out HC players for better players in the portal because we just swapped our current players in via the portal or recruiting. More players coming and going would make HC the poster child for the ills of big time basketball. 1750 players entered the portal last year. That is about 5 per team. There is nothing big time about HC and PL basketball unless you consider the entirety of D1 basketball to be big time. I'm thinking one of the few strengths of the current HC team is that other than Reilly's logical transfer, there has been stability among all players and staff after a tumultuous couple of years so next year we have a chance to cash in on that stability with more players experienced playing with each other and the same coaches than most teams. But if we lose that, we are in danger of having the ills of big time basketball with none of the advantages because I don't think you can swap players into Holy Cross with enough more talent than the incumbents to override the loss of experience playing with each other under the same coach. If the head coach is swapped it is conceivable you get enough additional coaching skill to compensate for the disruption, but no guarantees. Plus, to be successful a PL team should have fewer transfers than most teams because it is a senior driven league.
