The pride of Waterbury. I remember as a kid that the Courant (probably employing 15 sportswriters at the time) covered her team, the Connecticut Falcons on a daily basis. The story was almost always the same. The Falcons won, she had some hits, maybe a home run, and struck out everybody.

For some reason, I seem to recall that she played for the Raybesto's Brakettes. I think that is right. May she rest in peace-what an athlete she was.

Her exploits were truly amazing. People still talk about her striking out Ted Williams before 10,000 at a Jimmy Fund event in Waterbury when she was 20. But also, she became a pro golfer at 38; she is in the CT women's volleyball HOF, and she was a sensational basketball player before women's hoop was even on the radar screen. She could excel at any sport. I had met her a few times at events, always cordial. Her brother was my postman for years - great guy, great family.

Raybestos was one of the early sponsors of both men's and women's softball teams - always had world class players.

Didn't Ralph Raymond have something to do with both the Brakettes and HC at various times?

Raymond was indeed the freshman baseball team coach at HC in the spring of 1970 (during my brief stint with the team before Kent St killing ended the season)

Thought that might be the same guy! Bet you played more baseball than I played soccer. Had a rather short career, a minute of varsity action. Moonlight Graham!

She was amazing. As a kid I almost certainly watched her pitch for Raybestos up in Connecticut. She was unhittable. She reminds me of the legendary Babe Didrikson Zaharias, another multi-sport star. Did anyone watch the Oscar winning short documentary " The Queen of Basketball"? (21 min)The film describes the exploits of the late Lusia "Lucy" Harris. She was wonderful. Available on the NY Times online. As in many areas of life, too often great women have been overlooked. Hopefully, this is changing in the present environment.
