I saw him pre-Covid at a New Year's Eve celebration at a restaurant in CT. He was having a hard time walking. It looked like my hip is about to go kind of walk. |

Loved that remark "Absolutely hysterical. To this day, when people ask me what a Braintree accent sounds like, I direct them to Coach Calhoun: "Get some facts, and come back and see me!!!""
I missed watching him play at BHS by a year or two; but they had a great coach, Fred Herget; and they went deep into the old Tech Tournament nearly every year. Played in a high school version of Rose Hill Gym, huge home court advantage.

Another memorable retort at a post game press conference involving Braintree was after a tough loss a young kid from a Braintree weekly asked former Red Sox Manager Jimy Williams a challenging question. Annoyed, Jimy (not Jimmy) asked him where he was from and the kid said the Braintree Bugle or whatever the name of his small paper was. Jimy replied: "Well I'm a Brain Tree Surgeon" and went to the next reporter. |
