Terrible timing for the Travelers Championship in CT next week. Definitely going to this out the field considerably. It was announced on Tuesday that DeChambeau had committed to play. On Wednesday, he joined the LIV tour. I thought I heard that De Chambeau had said he was joining LIV when they came to America which isn't until after the GHO. If that is true, he still might play. The GHO always had a good field. I went in 2019 and Dustin Johnson was there. Tough for that tournament

I would just say the PGA tour did this a little bit to themselves.
They went away from golf courses and tournaments that gave them so much success.
Pleasant Valley tournament for years with big names they destroyed that by giving them awful dates. How about Walt Disney World tournament which they packed up and left. They left the tournament at Doral.
On top of that you are not guaranteed to make any money on the PGA Tour if you do not make the cut. I can understand why guys went over and are playing. There is a tournament in Massachusetts at the international.

I went to ESPN website to see how day 1 of this tournament went yesterday. While there were a number of stories about the LIV tour controversy, the tournament scores were not readily available. There are links to the Korn Ferry tour, LPGA, Champions, etc. Obviously ESPN has a business relationship with the PGA Tour and is minimizing conflicts with it.

I noticed UFC coverage on the ESPN website blossomed when broadcast contracts switched from FS1 to ESPN and ESPN+.

Hmm. The Saudis are in a financial position to pay ESPN/ESPN+ to carry their matches. That could be quite enticing to any broadcaster paying an arm and a leg for NFL and other broadcast rights.
I'd be more excited if watching golf was more exciting.

Brooks Koepka, a four-time major winner and former world No. 1, will leave the PGA Tour for the LIV Golf International Series, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
Abraham Ancer, No. 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking, will also join LIV, he said in an interview with Boardroom, giving the new circuit two of their highest-ranked golfers to date.theathletic.com/news/brooks-koepka-liv-golf/3IxStlkrHIWE/?amp=1

I’m guessing the prize money is great but being in Saudi Arabia has to be a real drag. Are the players going to commute bavk and forth from the US or Europe or are the get going to move to a a western enclave in the kingdom?

Koepka still in the field for this weekend’s Travelers Championship. ”Players joining LIV Golf are suspended as soon as they hit a ball in the rival series’ events, but with the next event not until June 30…”

They just jump on a flight to get to Europe. (It isn't that tough anymore)

Given the quality of players signing up for the LIV tour, PGA has had to respond (beyond knee-jerk suspensions). And they have:
PGA Tour players were informed of wholesale changes to the tour schedule and FedEx Cup that will begin in the fall of 2023, according to multiple players present at a mandatory meeting ahead of this week’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn.
Starting next year, the PGA Tour schedule will include eight limited-field no-cut events, with purses of $20 million or more each, for the top 50 finishers in the prior season’s FedEx Cup standings. Some of those events will be in the heart of the season, while others will be in the fall. Those outside the top 50 will compete in an alternate series of tournaments, where they will fight to keep their cards and earn better status for the following season.
Obviously, there is more to follow in terms of a PGA response.
