Until last weekend I did not really understand the impact of our facilities on recruits and visitors. A security person (probably a bit bored and very willing to show off "his" great building) took me around and into the Blaney court. He showed me details I had not known. Every detail in the court matches the main court in the Hart...the lighting intensity, the possession clock (on during practices and drills), the dimensions of every part of the court...even the volume of the horn. Yes, it is the playing area for volleyball, but it is also an ideal practice area for both the men's and women's hoop teams. The practice field for football is certainly impressive as is the weight room...one that would make an NFL team proud, IMHO. Even smaller rooms - like the film rooms, are impressive. I thought "well done, HC."

It's still coaching. I think WBB had as many holes in it's talent as MBB but utilized the same level of facilities to better effect.
The practice court is impressive but what is HC's record with it as opposed to without it? I think the main advantage is both the Men and Women can schedule practice whenever they want as they both have a whole gym to themselves.

It is also about the administration’s commitment to having a successful program or at least not tying both hands of the program behind its back. For years, HC had no home court on campus and practiced in a Quonset hut and had a very successful program. Then the men’s program was severely hamstrunged by the administration with predicable results. There have been some years of exceptions but for the most part, HC hoops has been a faint shadow of what it was since the mid Eighties. There is a reason for the ineptitude.

There have been some years of exceptions but for the most part, HC hoops has been a faint shadow of what it was since the mid Eighties. There is a reason for the ineptitude. Correct. The DCU Center/Centrum was sold to the community in part as a venue for high level Holy Cross Basketball. Frank Sinatra opened the building to huge hoopla and area residents have been streaming in for events ever since, but not for high level HC BB. A practice court demonstrates commitment but the boat was missed in the eighties. One issue is that money can be raised for named buildings like the Luth but coaching and AD salaries have to be mostly covered by tuition and fees which are high per student but low in aggregate in the overall D-1 universe. Currently we have a rookie Head Coach who was hired by a rookie AD, which was probably influenced by a modest budget. The city paid for the DCU, donors paid for the practice facility, but current students have to pay the largest part of coaching salaries. I'm hoping BN has been gaining valuable experience and it will pay off this season and Kit is a quick learner who stays awhile.

Some quick and admittedly inexpert reactions:
While he was hired as a rookie head coach, after 3 seasons, Brett has lost his rookie status.
Having spent some “quality time” with Kit and having spent time with ADs from Dick Regan, Nate Pine and Marcus Blossom, my impression - and that’s all it is - is that Kit will likely turn into the best of the bunch.
I also appreciate your qualifier about who pays for coaches salaries. As a long time Class beggar for funds, for years now, the CAF has significantly supplemented athletic expenses. The ability of the funds secured from alums, parents and friends to help pay for trips, hotels, equipment, etc. frees up money for salaries. While the team budgets may allot money for specific purposes, the funds come into one big pot for the teams. Without the CAF, if we think things are bad now, it’d be even worse if it were dependent on just student fees.

If Kit's response to alumni emails is any indication of his effectiveness, I am not hopeful.

If Kit's response to alumni emails is any indication of his effectiveness, I am not hopeful. Who knows how many emails, hard-copy letters and calls from alumni the man is receiving. I'd prefer he do his job rather than spend much time answering inquiries. Perhaps he could reply to a few a day.

The AD is limited to what he can do. If the MBB program is to improve the administration needs to step up. If not, we will never be good again.

I wonder if Kit has access to those who contribute big $ and the names on that list get the replies - I know for a fact that NP and MB were also not very good at replying to emails with concerns and suggestions

But consider that Nate Pine did his job by picking Coach Chesney from a national search with a smaller budget than Kit will have when or if he hires a new MBB coach. The administration played no significant role in that stroke of genius or luck, whichever you prefer.
