The Worcester Telegram is reporting that the city has ok'd a liquor license for the Hart Center at Holy Cross.

I guess for some that will be good news. Did HC allow the license they had previously to lapse or did it only cover Hogan?

They traditionally applied for and received a succession of day or temporary permits as I understand it, which must have been exhausting and expensive but perhaps preserved the notion that Holy Cross is (was?) not a full time saloon.🙂

When the drinking age lowered and HC had a bar in Hogan, I always thought that bar had a permit. Applying daily for a license seems like an exercise in futility.

I believe that's basically right...now the Hogan building [Crossroads bar?] is licensed
IIRC sponsors of Hogan events that had liquor were ad hoc licenses obtained by the catering staff.
Serving in Kimball, behind Louth et al places probably still event licenses

So they are or they are not going to sell beer and wine at games?
Of course if they do, the school's making it easier for the fans to deal with the ineptitude of the teams

I just hope the fans / parents keep their vocal comments in check. The chants at NBA games go way overboard. Alcohol seems to be the match for the fire

It is a potential asset to a college that if managed correctly could increase revenue and attendance but with significant risk if not controlled tightly.

Hogan has always had a license, but it only covered Hogan. No other building Back when Hogan was built licenses in the city were very stingy. Worcester was maxed out. Holy Cross had to buy a bar room somewhere else in the city and transfer the license to Hogan

HC only averaged 804 fans last year for mens hoops. How many beers/wine you expect to sell at a game? 400 would be half the crowd? 200 people? It can't be a major revenue stream at all.

Will they serve local craft beer? For those who abstain maybe they could serve athleticbrewing.com.

How can the state disallow that permit when they've granted them to BC and BU; and others, I'm sure? Only way I can see that is if the vote taken in the city itself was contentious.

This isn't for many of you, or even considering the 400 people who show up. This is for one demographic: the students. MAYBE consider some locals who would come up and sip a brew or two while they watch the teams play. If students want to go to the bar or drink in their dorm or apartment, and basketball is a conflicting event to that, then it's been clear for years that basketball is losing. Put the men's and women's games on the same date. Put them on Saturday afternoon into evenings. Let the game be a "pre-game" as the youth say to going out and partying. Let anyone buy a beer with a student ID.

With the 2022-2023 team it will make losing more enjoyable!

The Worcester Telegram is reporting that the city has ok'd a liquor license for the Hart Center at Holy Cross. IMHO! This is what you get when you reach out to the City of Worcester in partnership! Great job President Rougeau! Great job Coach Chesney! Great job Kit Hughes! This would have NEVER happened under Fr. Burroughs. Again IMHO.

Have they improved the concessions at the Hart Center? In the past I've had guests I've brought to hoop games comment on the beautiful facility but the lame concessions offerings.

Newfie, I normally only get an occasional pretzel when I buy anything at the stand, but if I remember correctly I thought they rotated a few different options for featured "entrees" last year, like chicken nuggets and fries, different sandwiches, etc. I thought they placed a small sign at the beginning of the walk up line to show the featured special of the night. At least that's what I remember.

Never understood why HC's proprietary Dining operation wouldn't want to use concessions as a way to show off their skills and shine since fewer and fewer colleges have that option and now contract out dining services.

Maybe it is just I, but I have never attended a sporting event based on the quality or price of the concessions. Nor have I ever not attended a sporting event based on the quality or price of the concessions. Don't get me wrong, better food and cheaper beers are both good things, but both are irrelevant to my decision to attend or not.

I agree, but if I’m at an event I’d much rather be able to get a decent variety of quality eating and drinking options than whatever they’re selling at the Hart concession stand.

Hiring the right coach, retaining your good young players, getting skilled recruits through admissions. These are all things that are hard and not always doable.
But having high quality offerings at the concession stands, that's something that is doable whether the team is 3-29 or 29-3.
