Starting with the (safe) premise that it is an uphill battle for the 2nd place PL team to find a way into the playoffs one can imagine the question of who they have defeated (forget close losses) is paramount. And that does not bode well for Fordham. No doubt the coaches in the Bronx know that. No doubt that the Fordham staff and players are treating us as a must-win because Fordham would no doubt be on the bubble with a loss. At this moment I would say odds are in favor if 2 PL teams getting in. It's happened multiple times before, including when the playoff bracket only had 16 teams. They are on the bubble now, with just one loss. Because they have zero (0) quality wins. Losing to HC will move them off the bubble (and not in a good way).

All I can say is I hope we put up a 60-burger against them to prove you right. I just think a potential 49-45 squeaker with HC winning might give voters a reason to think before they launch them out of the Top 25 for a close loss to a team ranked as high as #6 in some polls.

Bringing this back to the top now that our destiny is starting to take shape. I fully recognize there are three games left in the regular season and anything can happen. That said, we should be heavily favored in each of our remaining games, two of which are in Worcester and one is in DC where there may well be more HC fans than Georgetown fans. So, let’s say for the sake of argument that we run the table and go 11-0. That probably puts us in line for a 5 or 6 seed and a first round bye.
As a reminder, courtesy of Sam Herder, here are the guidelines for how they put the bracket together once they agree on the seeds:
The committee avoids conference matchups in the first round if the two teams played each other in the regular season. However, if two conference teams did not play each other during the regular season, they may be paired up in the first round. Non-conference opponents who did play each other in the regular season may be matched up.
Once first-round teams are paired up via proximity, they will be slotted with the seeds that are (again) as close as possible regionally.
So, where does that leave us? We’ll likely be at home on Saturday Dec 3rd against the winner of a first round game between two east coast teams. One prediction I saw had us as a 6 seed hosting the winner of UNH and St. Francis (PA). If we win, we’d head to the 3 or 4 seed for a quarterfinal game. That will be a loooonnnngggg trip. The one I saw with us as the 6 seed had the winner of our game traveling to Montana State. These may not be the exact teams we will play but gives us a sense of a pretty realistic scenario.

Last year, Villanova was the 6 seed. They hosted the winner of HC and SHU in the second round and were then slated to travel to Sac State. Sac State lost in the second round and Villanova then got to host unseeded SDSU who beat them 35-21 in the quarters.

A dream situation would be the MVFC and Big Sky teams continuing to beat each other up, and HC and William & Mary win out to get into that 4/5 seeded game.
Agree with you, 92, that we are almost assuredly heading out west if we manage to reach the quarterfinals.

Raise your hand if 10-15 years ago you thought you'd be really, really interested in what was going on with west coast FCS teams.
Nice isn't it?

Bryant and Robert Morris in the Big South. The league needs them to maintain a minimum six teams to qualify for an auto bid. Bryant and Bobby MO need the Big South because...?

Not good news that Bucknell AD is Chair of the committee. He could be pissed at this year's massacre and had to be involved in 2020 decision not to let HC parents into the stadium. Yet parents, students and fans were allowed to attend. Bad blood still exists.....

I should think that 99% of the time any official would support and promote other teams from his conference. If the Bucknell guy does not do so he would be exposed within the committee as some kind of malcontent

We're going to have to win a challenging regional game in Round of 16 before we even think about a trip west for quarters and/or semis.

Maybe the NEC doesn't want any football only schools. Bryant is going to AE and RMU moved to the Horizon League. Neither have football.
