Unlike the other winter sport, this OOC sked is excellent.

Unlike the other winter sport, this OOC sked is excellent. Outside of the North Dakota games, they are playing the back end of Hockey East (Vermont and UNH) middle of the pack (Merrimack) and dreadful ECAC (Brown). The best two other non conference games are solid in Quinnipiac and Clarkson.

And based on being picked 10th out of 10 teams in the AHA Coaches Poll, I'd reason the non conference schedule is very low on the list of importance for the program currently. Making sustainable progress in AHA should be #1 by a long margin.

When you are one of the worst teams in the worst conference, every non-conference game is going to look good.
Big year for Riga.

After starting last season 3-13-1, we finished 9-10-1.
Would like to think there are some good feelings heading into this season.

#1 AIC "Absolutely In Charge" continues to rule the roost. I never cease to be impressed.
#2 Sacred Heart: From an equity and justice point of view, it's nice to see them getting some return on their huge commitment to hockey.
#10 Holy Cross: I feel good about Coach Riga and the staff he has formed. One small variable in his control is he didn't dip below D-1 Hockey to try to help his winning percentage. I think scheduling only D-1 OOC opponents provides the best opportunity for the team to improve and appreciate him giving them the best opportunity.

Men's Hockey never plays an OOC opponent below D-1.

We’re playing the 4th, 7th and 17th ranked teams in the country (USA Today poll) and 3 Hockey East teams (even if they’re crappy ones like UNH). I’d say that’s a very respectable slate given where we are.

Also of note: BC (Exhibition anyway), AIC, RIT, and Merrimack (in that order) all received votes in the USA today preseason ranks. Sacred Heart also received votes in the USCHO.com preseason poll. BC comes in at #21 and #22 in those polls. Quinnipiac should be a national title contender and Clarkson is certainly no slouch and can also look to contend for the ECAC title.
I like the momentum, the recruits, and messaging from Riga. He is more substantiative than posting a happy team victory photo after a win against a lesser opponent. I guess you could say I believe in the process and hope the rink study can only aid in the program's development.

Not a high standard as that is about 60 percent of all D-1 hockey teams.

Point is, we have a good schedule for testing the squad with some reasonable conference matchups that are probably winnable. Have to start somewhere

Very smart schedule considering where the program is. And if HC can win a few of these non-cons then it helps AHA overall in the pairwise.
