Looks like Richards is moving up from DBO.....and Joe Kennedy has apparently left.
Tate from George Mason. Former player there.

Admittedly, this is a little disappointing that one of the senior assistants departed the program and we backfilled with youth. Either they didn't cast a wide net or Nelson didn't attract a more experienced assistant. Thought old UMass coach McCall would have been a natural fit given his relationship with Nelson for the year.

So we have two DOBOs on an already underwhelming coaching staff now?

With a future that is not guaranteed, it is hard to attract players and coaches-- Given where things stand, I think the additions, players and coaches, are better than I would have anticipated.
Let's hope that all works out this year

Have no idea what McCall is doing right now (if anything), but I suppose the timing of this didn't help matters.

Yeah, or all assistant coach candidates are already locked into their current jobs for this year and wouldn’t want to leave their teams high & dry the week practice starts like Kennedy is doing to HC. Nelson should have moved on from Kennedy long ago.

Time for Torey Thomas to hang up his sneaker and return to HC?

Time for Torey Thomas to hang up his sneaker and return to HC? Love how Matt McCall is being mentioned as if it’s something that would have slipped by HCBN if it was a viable option. Has anyone reviewed his UMASS contract/buyout to understand if he may have language that would cause him to lose $ if he works somewhere else (not all buyouts are a simple arrangement where his buyout just gets subtracted by his new salary)? Does anyone know if he still wants to coach this year? Does anyone know if his family has moved out of the state rather than sticking around Western Mass? I love Torey Thomas but he’s never coached at any level other than youth AAU as far as I know, and hasn’t been in the college game for ~15 years. If you’re complaining about the lack of experience from the two guys who are now in these roles (including one who worked for SOVHOF Dave Paulsen), it’s tough to also be advocating for Torey Thomas at the same time.

Lots of truth in here with regard to McCall, who is just one name. There are many other options and just seems like Nelson took the easy road by promoting the current DOBO and then sliding in another guy to be the DOBO. We certainly don't need another guy with HC connections to have been coach, but here's someone who could have been a decent candidate: unionathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/mike-smiley/71Been coaching for a while now and I imagine would have jumped at the opportunity to get into the D1 ranks at his alma mater. Another intriguing name: www.hamdenhall.org/athletics/basketball-club-hhbc#:~:text=About%20Coach%20Doherty,coaching%20experience%20to%20Hamden%20Hall.

It’s possible the number of assistant coaches willing to leave a program as the school year begins, is very small.

Joe Kennedy was very highly respected by college and high school coaches alike. He was an effective recruiter and on court coach. He loved working at Holy Cross. I thank him for his years at HC.

So we have two DOBOs on an already underwhelming coaching staff now? No, we have one DOBO and a new assistant. Moving from DOBO to Assistant Coach is quite common in college basketball.

Who will win more games this year, HCFB or HCMBB?

Football will have the opportunity to win 15 games (11 in the regular season and four in the playoffs).
Don’t think basketball reaches 15.

Ignutz, I believe your initial post was intended only as a way to attach the basketball coach. Given that, if we are looking at "opportunity" then HC basketball has the opportunity to win over 30...twice what football could win. I'll go with basketball because I hope that 16 is within reach.

Kennedy has roots in politics, he's a bright Northwestern grad, he's perfect for this new position to encourage voting. After seven years in a support role he gets to take a leadership position as Executive Director. He can't very well put it off until after the season because with midterms coming up it's go time right now.
Sometimes these positions have to wait for funding to be secured or things like that so I have no complaints. I'm sure he kept HC posted and the team was ready with a plan in place. I like Nelson hiring from within, with no wasted time needed to understand each player.
Kennedy is no fly by night after seven years. Thanks Joe.

Who will win more games this year, HCFB or HCMBB? BB. Good head start with Dean, Colby-Sawyer and Stonehill.
