Not sure what it means going forward but Congress hasn't renewed the Ivy League's Anti-Trust Exemption which allowed them to prohibit merit based financial aid to any student, including athletes.

We currently have the first President with no Ivy League educational background since Reagan. That won't help the Ivies keep their exemption, but why do you need a Congressional exemption to make all aid need based?

When 8 schools get together and make an agreement not to give out merit aid they are illegally acting in concert to against the free market. Maybe not so funny. Princeton's endowment is now such that every student could attend Princeton for free.

Right- the funny part is the Ivy schools claiming to have financial constraints

Right- the funny part is the Ivy schools claiming to have financial constraints That was yesteryear. Holy Cross received more tuition and fees revenue than did Princeton -- for the ENTIRE university. And that was before the recent jump in the Princeton endowment. Princeton's endowment value increased by $11 billion between 2020 and 201. Princeton pays out 5.5 percent on the endowment value. That $11 billion equates to an increased payout of $605 million, assuming no changes in endowment value in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Wait for the day that Princeton gives $100,000 NIL to every football player whose image appears in the game program. Why not?

Or pays each Princeton professor $1 million a year!

Or pays each Princeton professor $1 million a year! The 'problem' that those schools with mega endowments are having is the restricted endowment' funds principal is increasing so fast, that the annual distribution cannot be effectively spent. Case in point: Coach K's Legacy endowment at Duke has a 2021 value of $120-125 million. The distribution is used for scholarships (the entire team, and now the managers) and assistant coaches' compensation. I think some can be used for Cameron indoor, but I believe it cannot be used for the head coaches' salary. (The fund was established long before Coach K. retired.) That's an annual distribution of $5.5 million. Scollie payout would be less than $1.5 million. The richer universities are studying ways to make these restricted endowments more fungible, which is not a straight-forward exercise..

Oh, so they are limited to doing things legally?
