Back after taking 12 hours to reflect:
Since I touted the announcing team I feel compelled to comment. At one time Joseph was the sideline reporter, and Leone (a hoops guy) was in the booth with Laubach. I thought that worked a lot better. Still, I was only really annoyed with their chatter on the reviews. Can't say they weren't complimentary of the HC team/players, and Joseph was also critical of the Pards special team play. Laubach's "oh my"s seemed like a rip off of Dick Enberg, but remember, we are getting close to BINGO!!!!! season again. Had this been a 27-3 game we probably wouldn't have noticed their call as much.
Has there ever been a game where the special teams had such an impact on the result, with one team being excellent, and the other poor? Just incredible.
How bout Sluka - bottled up most of the game, but when they absolutely had to have it.......a perfect laser beam for the winner.
Maybe this was just what they needed, their Merrimack 2021 game, if you will.
Now the focus can be 100% Fordham!!!

NAD, I'm sure you just woke up and in your dreams you heard this: One other observation: We have almost as many post game pages for this game as during the game itself. That has to tell you something.

Again, give Laffy credit....but we slept walked through this game.....it happens But it should not happen to a strong team against an inferior opponent, especially with a playoff bid and/or seeding on the line. It is a short season, 11 scheduled games, unlike baseball or hoops. It should not be hard to be mentally prepared for 11 games, which if you succeed, gives you more as a reward. This happens to almost every team. (Look at Georgia vs Missouri this year.) It is hard to mentally prepare for 11 games. They’ve been going hard since early august. I thought we’d start slow coming off the bye (and the previous week Bucknell bye) and then run away with it in 2nd half. I was right and wrong. But we survived. I’m glad Fordham is coming off their bye before us. Next month in FBS, teams vying for a playoff spot will get a scare or a loss vs an “inferior” opponent on the road. Happens EVERY year. Chaos week. We were looking ahead, Probably reading our press clippings and are 18-22 years old. It happens. Survive. Learn from it. Bury Fordham..

Watching the final few drives of the game now...don't think Coker caught the ball on 3rd and 7.
I suppose good teams find ways to win games. Road games in league are never easy. But, man, were we fortunate yesterday.

And an email from one Classmate who was at the game: I saw on the HC Football Facebook page where all the nice parking lots were sold out. I responded to that with some skepticism ...turns out I was right...looks like the Pards fans are more devoted to socializing than watching their team play a hell of a game

I went to the game yesterday. Four years ago, I tailgated in the multi-level garage next to the football stadium. This year the tailgate was a block away on Bushkill street. My first time going to a Holy Cross game that parking was free. Weather was great, great people, great food, great music - just a fun time.
On to the game:
We had a great crowd on the visitor's side. Poor crowd on the Lafayette side for homecoming.
Mid way 1Q, I'm thinking the team is a little rusty from the bye week and that they just need to turn on a switch and go. Score late in the 1Q, everything good.
After 3Qs, I'm worried. We only had one sustained TD drive. In my head I'm thinking 2018 - Bucknell, 2019 - Lafayette, 2021 - Merrimack. All games we should have won, but we simply did not play well.
The difference with this team is they are good enough to have a bad game and still win. Everyone knows we can't afford another game like this. I'm sure the coaches will make the proper adjustments.
Lafayette had great line play on both sides of the ball, even though they came in at 2-4 (2-5 now), they have played a tough schedule. This was not the easy game that I was expecting. They have played 3 out of the 5 remaining undefeated teams left in FCS. I'm going out on a limb, but they may be the second best team in the Patriot League.
Sacred Heart W - SH, even though they lost to Merrimack, can still win the NEC and go to the NCAA playoffs. Merrimack is ineligible for the conference championship Temple L FBS William and Mary L Ranked #12 Penn L undefeated Bucknell W Princeton L undefeated Holy Cross L undefeated

No excuse for the performances by the D or QB today Just a very ugly day Move on The last 3 possessions LC had were shutdowns. Cant beat that when the game was on the line. Was the completion to Shorter the only catch by a wideout other than Coker? BUMP- yes, I was right. Incredibly, only 6 completions, 3 to Coker, 2 to Fuller and 1 to Shorter. I hate college football overtime and our team is Exhibit A why. Special teams are taken out of the equation, save for short field goals and PATS; and those two areas are not our strong suit. All the other facets of special teams are and in an OT, they are meaningless.

In looking at the box score, we failed to surpass the century mark in both passing and rushing yards.
Wonder how many games we have won in the history of the program with fewer than 100 yards rushing and passing.

I will be very happy if they clean up the taunting. Have absolutely no problem with playing with an edge and with confidence. Being arrogant and taunting is unwarranted at this point and I hope that’s already been addressed on the ride home.

I have read all the posts and agree totally with the overall tone of what is being expressed.
That said, in the closing minutes, while definitely realizing that a loss was very possible, I said to the guys I was with "Sluka will find a way to win this game. He's just a born winner."
And BOOM. On 4th down and the game totally on the line, he throws a perfect bullet to Shorter for the winning TD.
The kid is simply amazing. I love watching him play. He's right up there with Gil Fenerty as my favorite HC football player of all time.

If their defense continues putting that much pressure on the QB the rest of the way, they're going to get wins. If they play at Fordham like they played yesterday, Lafayette's defense will have a chance to make things very, very tough on Fordham on the 12th. At worst, they should be favored in 3 of their last 4 games.

Being arrogant and taunting is unwarranted at this point and I hope that’s already been addressed on the ride home. The taunting is a two way street but we can’t let it lead to stupid penalties because we want to show how tough we are by throwing a guy through the air well after the whistle. The penalties have been going on for a while. If it hasn’t been addressed yet, I doubt it was solved on the ride home. There is definitely an arrogance in that we tend to pile up the penalties more against teams we think we should beat easily apparently because it “won’t matter” as some have suggested here. We may have fewer stupid penalties against Fordham because we actually believe they could impact the outcome of the game.

Lafayette essentially dared us to beat them through the air and we had 6 completions. We had some opportunities for big plays down the field and missed most of them.

The challenge of winning college football games “on the road” is significant. Having only had 1 game of true “home cooking” entering the 8th game of the season should not go unnoticed. Would be willing to bet that our Crusaders are one of if not the most ‘well traveled’ teams to date this season in all of college football.
The comfort and confines of Fitton Field with an expected meaningful home crowd should provide for some great home cooking and home field advantage.
LET’S WIN!!

Agree that one has to remember we’ve had only one game at Fitton Still, upon reflection I can’t believe how poorly we played and really got pushed around on both lines We only escaped because we played a D1 team that amazingly could not execute a punt properly

Yesterday's PL games were close contests. Competitive balance is much to be admired. The Lafayette game was a jolt of reality for both squads. No doubt the Lafayette players believed they should have won. It should buoy their confidence & program as well. They are a team on the rise. As for HC? I'll leave that to the more knowledgeable posters on this board. Would very much like to see Coach Chesney's post game presser.

What impressed me most about Lafayette is how they responded to our first score with one of their own and they are a much different and better offensive team with Davis at QB

I can't remember a series of personal fouls on the team I was rooting for that I had less complaints about. All 3 of them were egregious! And after one of them it should have been very clear to our student athletes that the officiating team was right on top of things and weren't going to tolerate it.

Shaky but we will take it. 7-0 I am so happy this is the best HC team in my lifetime.
Can't wait for next Saturday! Bring your family, friends, neighbors, co workers.
This team deserves a loud homefield advantage!

What is up with Dobbs? Is he still injured? Was just about to post the same question. Never see any comments on this. Definitely needed him today vs the run, and will for Fordham. Take this for what it's worth, but an HC student sitting behind me at the Bucknell game said that Dobbs told him he's done for the year.
