Hotel prices are sky high in Ireland now because up to 40% of hotels rooms are housing refugees, many from Ukraine. I heard that figure, it may not officially be that high, but perhaps HC couldn't make a sponsored trip for fans affordable. Maybe (hopefully) they locked in reasonable prices for the team some time ago. Where did you get that information? Seriously doubt that hotels all over Ireland are housing refugees. Ireland, post pandemic, is expensive now irrespective of refugees. Don't know what things are like now, but here are examples of the situation in the spring of this year in Ireland: "Currently, 22,229 tourism accommodation rooms across the country are being used to house asylum seekers and refugees. There are 82,591 tourist accommodation rooms in Ireland according to the Irish Tourism Confederation. It means almost one-third of the country’s overall hotel stock is being used for asylum seekers and refugees. The figures do not include homeless people who are also being housed in hotels." www.newstalk.com/news/one-third-of-irelands-hotel-rooms-now-housing-refugees-and-asylum-seekers-1451824#:~:text=There%20are%2082%2C591%20tourist%20accommodation,also%20being%20housed%20in%20hotels. "ourism leaders in Ireland have called for "a more balanced approach" to housing refugees. They were giving evidence to an Irish parliamentary committee which heard that 32% of tourist beds outside Dublin are now being used for humanitarian accommodation. In County Donegal the figure was 50%, said Eoghan O'Mara Walsh, chief executive at the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation." www.bbc.com/news/articles/cd1zzlgdl17o

County Kerry has been very welcoming to Ukrainian refugees. The children have been treated well in the schools and the moms seem equally welcomed. Few dads, obviously. Many are housed in homes. That has gone well also.

There are a lot of things I hear which I find exasperating but I usually believe nothing that I hear and 1/2 of what I see. Ireland, a member of the EU has a lot of people from worse off EU countries trying to better themselves. However, Ireland is not member of NATO so the Ukrainian refugee claim is very questionable.

I don't think NATO controls immigration. Neither 🇺🇦 or 🇮🇪 are NATO members so the humanitarian outreach comes from a different place. Ireland being a non-NATO member is mildly concerning however. How is the Irish six boat Navy supposed to protect the country on it's own?

Just back from Ireland I realize my experience is anecdotal but I find this information hard to believe. I had no trouble finding a hotel in Dublin, Donegal, Galway, Doolin, Dingle, and Cork. Rates were not inflated. I heard a few mentions of Ireland accommodating Ukrainian refugees but never heard a single complaint.

Bridget Herlihy and her sister played for Villanova and Braintree High before that. 5 others also played D1 basketball in the US.

I suspect they made their travel & accommodations reservations before the trip was announced. Usually these tours are set up through a company that specializes in them. This company did UConn Women and Michigan State Men to name some schools. Lots of big clients on there. international.anthonytravel.com

One can stay in Dublin next week at what someone has rated as 4 (out of 5) stars for $200-250 per night. Limerick, Waterford, Cork, etc have nice rooms for less than $200. I am sure that the prices are up, but those don't seem to be too bad.

Households who lodge a Ukrainian refugee now receive a tax-free payment of 800 euros a month, per property. Ireland has a median age of over 38.3 years, and a fertility rate of 1.63. Twenty percent of the current population was not born in Ireland. Refugees (or immigrants) are essential, else Ireland will eventually become like Italy where the median age is 47.7 years and the country is one its way to become a nation that is really just one big retirement community. For comparison, the median age in the United States in 1980 was 30 years, in 2000 it was 35, and in 2022 it was 38.9.

From the team blog:
THE GAME: HOLY CROSS AT IRELAND
The Crusaders led 20-12 through the opening 10 minutes with senior Cara McCormack scoring 11 of her 20 points in the opening frame. Ireland battled back to take a three point halftime edge 32-29. A 17-15 third period in favor of the Crusaders dropped the deficit to one, 47-46. Sophomore Simone Foreman connected on four made free throws to push the guests back ahead 50-47. Ireland then reclaimed the lead for good using a 13-2 run on the strenghth of the three-ball as four of their six three-point conversions came in the final stanza. Senior Bronagh Power-Cassidy joined McCormack in double-figures with 10 markers.
After the game, the Crusaders met up with members of the Ireland team and former player Elieen Bradley '97. Holy Cross will depart to Galway for their next stop on the foreign trip.
COACH'S CORNER
“Tonight was a great effort against a very talented Irish team. The atmosphere in the gym was terrific and we really appreciated the hospitality from everyone! It was an exciting game that saw many lead changes and I was proud of how we competed to come back from down in the 3rd quarter. I thought we adjusted to the 24 second shot clock well and played a quick, uptempo game. Cara’s energy in the first half really gave us the confidence we needed and made some tough deep 3’s against Ireland’s pressure defense. It was great to see 10 people score as well and felt everyone contributed for us tonight! Ireland made some big plays down the stretch, especially from “3” to come away with the win. It was a great experience to play against national level players, we thank Ireland for the opportunity to compete!” - Head Coach Maureen Magarity

Based on the photos posted in the blog, Lauren Huber was not in game uniform against the Ireland National Team. Is she injured? To what extent? Will she be available for the beginning of the upcoming season?
is the a second game scheduled in Ireland ?
