HC has multi-sport arrangements with both Merrimack and Bryant so get use to it. Since I don't make the schedule I have little to say about the teams we play. But if I don't think it helps the program I have the right to express an opinion on the board and to the department. So instead of declaring I need to get use to it, I would hope you might be open to the conversation and be willing to discuss the merits and weaknesses of what those schools offer Holy Cross. If you do,. I promise I will do the same. Actually my Easter break from responding was refreshing and healthy for me and I think it might be time to step away and just read the posts until the fall.

Those schools offer more when compared to the worst four teams in the PL.

They have enough talent at the skill positions to steal a win if we play poorly, and we gain nothing by beating them. Prefer a steady diet of CAA teams and forget about regional play. Just not a fan of playing teams that offer us little even with a win. But the CAA doesn't need PL teams to help their schedules. It takes two to tango.

Last year Fordham went 3-0 against the CAA and got more at-large clout from a close loss to another Patriot League team. We have URI on the schedule in 2024. Maybe they'll still be pretty good....or maybe they will be worse than Merrimack and Bryant. We don't know.

Any AD who could accurately predict the future ability of opponents would be invaluable. Sadly, I don't believe there is anyone who can do that. No decision can be better than the information on which it is based and I believe that currently HC is using all available data in setting future schedules.

Get strong local games. Allow longtime rivalries to continue to prosper. Those are my beliefs. Thats why Im against what some have said here with regards to dumping Ivies that we've played for a century in favor of "CAA teams" that might be good or might be meh.

I'm a "moderate traditionalist." (I just made that up) By that I mean I want to continue to see Ivy teams regularly on the schedule. Specifically, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale and, on occasion, Brown, being both IL and close by (and just happens to be in RI ). Once in a blue moon, Princeton, Penn and Cornell . . . . but they can come to Worcester. I'd even be willing to watch those teams in Polar Park. Would like to see at least one "pay" game against the likes of BC, Army, UMass, UConn, even Syracuse, Navy. Yes, UNH, URI. Maybe Stony Brook for a certain poster here. In short. I think the schedules the last 5 or so years have been very good. They have my seal of approval. (I'm sure Bob & Kit will sleep better now)

Their three regularly scheduled CAA teams last year turned out to be relatively weak. But Fordham’s intent was a strong schedule (and they did lose to a stronger CAA team, UNH, in the playoffs). Know it takes two to tango but I hope we are making it a priority to get Villanova on our regular football schedule.

I explained a bunch of times already why Villanova hasn't jumped on the opportunity for such a series. Given the fact that their CAA schedule takes them to New England already at least once or twice per year, it makes more sense to schedule more local non-conference games. They play the Pennsylvania PL teams all the time and also had a series with Fordham not too long ago. However, the recent CAA expansion and subsequent POD setup should actually result in LESS overall travel during CAA play. Villanova should be in a regional POD with the likes of Delaware, Towson, Monmouth and Stony Brook. So possible there will be years where they don't have any road games in New England. Meaning a date with Holy Cross could be more appealing.

It would be nice for HC's NYC area fans to be able to see a game at Robert K. Kraft Field once a decade or so. The Lions stole Bill Swiacki from HC after he came home from WW2, but Gil the thrill paid them back when he ran over and around them for 337 yards and six touchdowns on 18 carries in 1983.

I wonder if that game was scheduled when both 'Nova and 'Gate were generally in contention for postseason play each year? The Wildcats might have been concerned about the effect of the PA PL contingent's effect on their ranking.

Was on ESPN and Colgate got smoked in Hamilton. 2019 was the most recent year FCS teams could play 12 games.

Holy Cross has the ability to reach beyond New England but seems indifferent to do so. If there was any time where a Bob Chesney could get a phone call answered from a Northwestern, a Tulane, or a Duke for a game in the mid to late 2020s, now would be it. Colgate's opener last season at Stanford was more than collecting a paycheck but getting its program out there to recruits beyond CNY and the Northeast. HC, Colgate, and Fordham have some name recognition outside their respective regions. By contrast, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh really don't and are seen as Division II schools by casual fans outside the Northeast.

HC football have a game scheduled at Northern Illinois in 2025, Miami University in Ohio in 2026, and San Jose State in 2029. In seems as HC is building future schedules beyond the Hudson and potentially south of the Potomac. Schedules for 2027 and 2028 may indeed have a HC visiting additional schools in the Midwest and South. Stay tuned….. fbschedules.com/ncaa/holy-cross/

Being a top 10 team in the nation and beating FBS teams two years in a row is not helping us get games against Duke and Tulane and Northwestern. Duke is playing Lafayette as its FCS game this year. Tulane is playing local foe Nicholls (3-8, Southland). Northwestern is playing Howard (5-6, MEAC). They want easy wins. Not a competitive game they might lose while paying the other team.

True, plus smaller private schools bring in less gate revenue than bigger schools and therefore often target buy games with opponents they don't have to fly in. Northwestern has played UNH in the past (lost!) and of course Howard this year so they seem open to inviting teams from further out. Duke and Tulane almost always seem to schedule local FCS teams that they can bus in. Guessing the Blue Devils will be flying Lafayette in though as thats about an 8 hour bus ride.

HC with its strong academic reputation adds a lot of value to FCS upper tier football rankings. Obviously, it's all about football. But, why not showcase HC, one of the top colleges in the country. HC adds luster to the FCS top ten. Great academics with great facilities on a beautiful campus in central Mass., one can have it all at HC.

If you mean the mention of Army’s run first attack. Even though they are dropping the wishbone, their coach said they will still have predominantly a rushing offense.
