I was walking to the Marist arena last night, temps in the mid-40s. Lights on the football field and a team was out there (soccer maybe) sitting on the turf listening to the coach coach. All I could think was they must be frozen because it was wicked cold out there. Good luck to the baseball team in Feb.!

High Temps for February 18 and 19 at Brainard Airport: 2016: 35 and 39 2015: 30 and 21 2014: 27 and 33 I would not put our pitchers out there for their first game action of the year on a day when the high temp is in the 30s. So, I guess we're hoping for a warm spell but the chances of getting one are not 40% or 60% and the average high temp in mid-February is 37 or 38, not the low 40s. My concern is that, by putting the game on the schedule, we'll be tempted to play in frigid conditions when 18-22 year old arms should not be getting their first game action of the season. We'll see how it plays out. Hopefully we'll be disciplined in our decision-making when it comes time to decide whether to play. I have faith in the two men who are paid to win baseball games for their respective schools to do what is best for their teams. Amen. Hopefully year 10 is the year we finally win the title in our 6-team league. I believe that scheduling two games in CT in mid-February is unlikely to help us attain that goal.

hcgrad- The $90K would have been better spent on faculty bonuses for superior teaching performance, scientific lab equipment, etc.

I have to hope that the two coaches got together and said "Hey, we are both heading south the next week (CCSU plays UMaine in DelRay Beach FL Feb 24-25-26) but let's schedule a couple of games but play them only if we get lucky and have temps above 50 degrees" Lowell and UConn are playing that weekend in Port St Lucie against each other.

Re: bfoley's note, CCSU has not published its baseball schedule, but it is possible that the games are being played in a Southern clime, given that it is a holiday weekend.

Re: bfoley's note, CCSU has not published its baseball schedule, but it is possible that the games are being played in a Southern clime, given that it is a holiday weekend. CCSU has published their schedule and it appears the games are in New Britain. They are playing Maine five days later but the schedule clearly shows those games being in Del Ray Beach, FL. www.ccsubluedevils.com/sports/bsb/2016-17/schedule

HC92, thanks for setting me straight. I went on the CCSU site and didn't find a schedule. No problem. I stumbled on it by accident. These college sports websites are getting much easier to navigate than they used to be but still a challenge for certain things.

hcgrad- The $90K would have been better spent on faculty bonuses for superior teaching performance, scientific lab equipment, etc. Since it was donated for the team and its travel, that is not an option. It would also be better spent on feeding the hungry and clothing the needy. Of course, this money to the team does not preclude any of that, if people are willing and able to contribute to that as well. It is not either/or.

I would guess there's a very good chance the games will be played this weekend. Would be a great head start for the team before they set off for Alabama.

RGS- Actually, it is a zero sum game. Since "zero-sum" is defined as "a situation (such as a game or relationship) in which a gain for one side entails a corresponding loss for the other side <dividing up the budget is a zero–sum game>" your statement appears to be incorrect. Greater giving in one area does not necessarily mean a loss in another (as is required for it to be "zero-sum").

no, outdoors with multiple artificial surface fields. lots of clinics/camps offered. there are indoor facilities but just for working out etc.. we played bc there a couple of years ago when march weather did not cooperate in worcester.

rgs- I have $100 to donate. I like both bball and baseball, but I want to give it to one team so my $100 will make a bigger difference. I give it to bball. Baseball loses the potential donation. That's a zero sum game. There are other scenarios. Any situation where one party necessarily loses if a different party wins is a zero sum game. A horse race is a zero sum game. The winner makes eight other horses necessary losers.
