How about the bats ? Has that not been the main weakness recently ?

Is Ben White healthy? If so, yes.

How about the bats ? Has that not been the main weakness recently ? Can't tell given that the hitters are squared up to bunt in most big spots.

Central Conn has an indoor stadium? No. That was a joke by 'haze about playing in CT in mid-Feb. At least they have a field-turf field which means that if it hasn't snowed for a while the field will be playable. Of course it may be 20° at game time, but that's a different issue.

Having lived in southwest FL for six yrs, I am still amazed at how many baseball diamonds there are down here. And well maintained.

Imaging the cost to send the basball team to SoCal. Wow. I'm quite sure the money for such long-distance trips comes from the athletics fund. Softball is going to Florida and North Carolina.

Yes Sarasota is not familiar with the concept of supporting ones college alma mater. If I recall correctly the baseball team raised about $90,000 last year from generous alumni parents and friends to make these types of trips very possible. In addition schools like USC pay a guarantee which helps defray the cost even more.

Imaging the cost to send the basball team to SoCal. Wow. 3 CA players on the team, 2 freshmen... more 'Admission points' for the Athletics Dpt... I believe our coach has a relationship with a baseball academy out there.

Those CCSU mid-February games are a terrible idea. I'd put the odds of either game being played at about 3%.

3% chance of seeing live pitching rather than seeing it in AL for the first time???

Won't "global warming" solve any issues with February temperatures? After the first two games (which do show true optimism) that is a great schedule. Well done, HC!

Those CCSU mid-February games are a terrible idea. I'd put the odds of either game being played at about 3%. A terrible idea how? I think the only thing that would be terrible is if the program wasn't trying to look for new ways to get better. Why not at least try and they can always cancel? No harm done to schedule these knowing that there is probably a 40/60 chance they play. Average temperature in Central Connecticut that time of year is in the low 40s so they might catch a day where they can get it in and help get the team prepared for the trip to Alabama and beyond.

High Temps for February 18 and 19 at Brainard Airport:
2016: 35 and 39 2015: 30 and 21 2014: 27 and 33
I would not put our pitchers out there for their first game action of the year on a day when the high temp is in the 30s. So, I guess we're hoping for a warm spell but the chances of getting one are not 40% or 60% and the average high temp in mid-February is 37 or 38, not the low 40s.
My concern is that, by putting the game on the schedule, we'll be tempted to play in frigid conditions when 18-22 year old arms should not be getting their first game action of the season. We'll see how it plays out. Hopefully we'll be disciplined in our decision-making when it comes time to decide whether to play.

I have to hope that the two coaches got together and said "Hey, we are both heading south the next week (CCSU plays UMaine in DelRay Beach FL Feb 24-25-26) but let's schedule a couple of games but play them only if we get lucky and have temps above 50 degrees"

I have faith in the two men who are paid to win baseball games for their respective schools to do what is best for their teams.

One of those men bunts far too frequently to win baseball games for his respective school.
