Now that Georgetown has gone 0 for calendar year 2022 in Big East play, some of their followers are predicting a Hoya exit from high major hoops down the road. Some are saying GU’s real success at the top of the sport began and ended with the John Thompson Era kind of like UMass with Calipari.

That is unrealistic. When the school finally comes to grips that beloved player Ewing just is not a coach, Gtown can hire a coach who can win there. Sound familiar ?

They played well against UConn for 35 minutes before collapsing down the stretch. Not sure you can blame the coach for that. Ewing was an experienced coach before coming to Georgetown.

Other than their Cinderella run to the title as the 8 seed in 2014, 99% of their glory days have come under Calhoun. Same with Duke and Coach K.

Experience not required: Georgetown's last seven head coaches before taking the job: High school coach High school coach College assistant High school coach College assistant Ivy League head coach NBA assistant

Experience is one thing but you need expertise and leadership skills as well. Assistant Coach and Coach do not have the same skill sets. In business the classic example is that the best salesman dies not always make the best sales manager

IIRC Vic Bubas and Bill Foster had tremendous success at Duke.

Not only would GTown take coaches w/Bubas' or Foster's Duke record, at this point they'd be happy with Bucky Waters (63-45); a hell of a TV analyst in his day, by the way (he was often paired w/Marv Albert on those Saturday ECAC Game of the Week telecasts).
