We also aren’t recruiting in the upper tier of New England prep lax (West 1).

Scheduling philosophy… it’s a meaningful game in terms of preparing for Army and Loyola and recruiting to attract kids because we play the best… skill level has improved.. they have a huge class arriving in the Fall. Coach R is one of the best and if he can get HC kids, with more scholarship $, we can move from the bottom to middle of PL… until fully funded with a better lax complex (porta potties… and no concessions) harder to get the number of kids to get to the top of the league— which is top in the Country outside the B10 and ACC (and IVY). I don't mean to be a wise guy, but we heard the same things with Judd Lattimore and Jim Morrissey. For a minute, it actually looked like we were onto something around 2015-17. Getting this program to respectability would be a nice accomplishment by ADKH. And Judd landed on his feet pretty well with getting a job at BU very quickly after the parents ran him out of town for being too tough on their kids.

/\ Without getting into the merits of that situation, I can imagine lax parents can be a handful in college as they (grossly generalizing) are quite a handful in high school. Especially in a non- schollie situation on a struggling D-1 team.

Especially in a non- schollie situation on a struggling D-1 team. I imagine there must have been a bunch of things bubbling up and running sprints at halftime against Brown was the clincher. If you look at our -- and this is putting it kindly -- downright awful history of men's lacrosse, Lattimore was one of the best coaches from a win / loss perspective. A 10-18 record in the PL is pretty good in his 3+ seasons, all things considered.

Speaking of parents...Foley I think I hear your mom yelling down to the basement that it's dinner time.

Lattimore did some good things for HC lax, but it should be noted that the team was 1-8 when he was forced out in 2018. The previous season, Lattimore’s last full season, HC went 4-4 in PL play. Note that 2017 was a very strong senior class, with K Lux, S Fitzpatrick, J Vogel, M Buerman, J Ortlieb, J McGovern, P Griewe and others. All of those guys were recruited by Morrissey. Those guys and a few others who were recruited by Morrissey and Pascal, e.g., S Wilkinson, C Haarman, T McKenna, carried the successful teams during Lattimore’s tenure. Coaching matters, but talent matters at least as much. Probably more. Consider also the talent that left under Lattimore; he recruited Steven Rehfuss, who transferred to Syracuse after one semester at HC. He was a 4 yr starter at Cuse (played a 5th Covid yr) and an All ACC attackman. Profile here: cuse.com/sports/mens-lacrosse/roster/stephen-rehfuss/19799. Rehfuss is quoted in the Syracuse papers, saying he left HC because of the coach. One of the best defensemen I’ve seen at HC also quit after his sophomore year at HC while Lattimore was coach. One of the other best defensemen I’ve seen at HC is rumored to have quit the team under Lattimore but rejoined shortly thereafter, missing only one game. The two defensemen I mentioned never looked soft to me and an All ACC attackman is by definition a hard worker. I don’t think those kids lacked toughness/needed mommy and daddy to fight for them. And it wasn’t just about running sprints at halftime. There were issues. This is shaping up to be another tough season, and I sincerely wish Lattimore and his family well (and appreciate their contribution to HC) but I’m ok with Judd being at BU and not HC. I think Reppert needs time. This freshman class is his first recruiting class. I appreciate all the hard work the HC kids are doing representing the school on the field and applaud the true student athletes they are, but we do not have the talent on this roster to be a competitive team and that is not on Reppert (it’s on Lattimore and Burke and maybe the HC administration for it’s contribution to the years of program instability). Turnovers, ball watching on defense, not enough offensive weapons to challenge defenses … those aren’t directly coaching issues (Cuse commentators pointed out the difficulty HC was having passing and catching). I think we need some years of stability … and some patience. Good players will come to HC even without floods of schollies … although they would clearly help.

Mercer lost to Bucknell 20-6.
We are losing to Mercer 14-4.
We might are looking at another one or two win season.

We might have a chance to be competitive against Dartmouth tomorrow. They beat Merrimack by a goal and were picked to finish last in the Ivy League preseason poll.
If we lose tomorrow, we are likely looking at beginning the season 0-10 -- not beating Army, Lehigh, BU, Navy, or Loyola.
Sad to say, but probably can't look at the record this year in terms of progress. Let's hope for competitive games, at least, and strides being made by the underclassmen.

We have to give Reppert some time. I think the current Frosh are his first full recruiting class. His wife also passed away in November and most of us can’t imagine the type of toll that has likely taken. Hopefully the younger guys develop this season and he can recruit at a high level.

Foley used to claim he was necessary here because everyone had purple glasses on and needed some realism. Now someone says “we might have a chance to be competitive” against a bad team but otherwise have no chance to get a win for a while and he has to dig up a score of some other game that doesn’t really add anything. We all agree we are not good at lax.

Was hoping to kill an hour by watching the first half of the game against Dartmouth today.
I guess we don’t have the ability to produce and stream two games at once. Oh well.

In a battle of top 10 teams, visiting Maryland easily beat Princeton 11-5 before a full house at Class of '52 stadium. One of the Tigers was penalized for an illegal stick and his goal disallowed. Have never seen that call before in my many years of watching college lax.

At this point not sure I see the need to continue the Men’s Lax program. This is embarrassing. Thoroughly embarrassing. And it’s not really an opinion. It’s fact.

Cut the FBall, Hockey and BBall scholarships to 25% of the competitors and see what those results look like. Lax is no different.

Merrimack lost to Dartmouth by a goal after beating Holy Cross by five.
