41 looked like an all star down the stretch, Gerrale had no lift left.
The T looked like the perfect storm for HC. Dorsey right by the bench, BU kid (injured guy w/sweatshirt, I think, not one of the dressed players) yelled in his direction; which was not far away. Ref standing right there.

We are wasting way too many point opportunities at the foul line.
I cannot recall another player going from a 75% foul shooter (over 133 shots) to a 58% foul shooter (over 138 shots). I am referring, of course, to G Gates.
I think it must have become partly psychological with him.
The two he missed in the closing minutes barely grazed the front of the rim.
If we hope to make a run in the PL Playoffs, GG has got to relocate his foul shooting stroke.
Such a clutch player. My bet is he will as he closes out his fine career at HC.

Whether or not he's wearing down (I think it's a combo of that and better D) it's promising that the team can still win with low productivity from him. Landrum from BU was outstanding late in the game, on both ends.

I can't recall HC ever winning a buzzer beater at the Hart. I remember a few for the visitors: late 90's, Dave Bike's (ex Sacred Heart coach) son throwing up a prayer for Hartford, Loyola of Chicago, finishing off the epic meltdown, and of course, J.F. Prioleau for Fordham in the first PL title game.
Agree with your comments, ND.....again, so annoying; BU gets key production from a freshman big, while on the HC bench, there are empty chairs.
Numbers aside, I too thought the D was very good at times in the halfcourt. BU did get some stuff in transition, and from crashing the glass.
Second half T aside, I thought Whyte was guilty of a dumb play that cost them 3 points in the first half. He had that big stuff of CK at the rim. Then, instead of reaching down and securing the slowly rolling ball, he had to stare down CK. HC gets possession, and Octave or someone promptly hits a 3.
I was impressed with Batch's maturity. It was evident from the get go that BU was not going to let him get off to a hot start like he did at the Roof - Harper was all over him. Batch remained poised, though, didn't force anything, and eventually was able to pick his spots and make a few plays off the dribble.
ND with a couple of big baskets as well.
What impressed me the most last night? After the game, walking towards the exit, we saw Coach Chesney assisting a couple of his players with folding up the courtside chairs - he does everything!
No expectations for Colgate; just hope the core stays healthy for next week.
As has been already mentioned, that first AU game is really stinging right now.

Landrum from BU was outstanding late in the game, on both ends. Team is playing with the type of confidence that comes from never quitting on each other or themselves. They have found ways to win — and fewer ways to lose. Whatever happens down the stretch hope for a strong showing on 2/25 - senior day — to support G Gates. He is a special player and person. His leadership has led to quality team W’s this season. Great to see others stepping up — credit to them too — but GG has been through thick and thin. Very thankful his unwavering commitment to HC. A true Crusader who I would want on my team on or off the court in any setting.

Meant to add: if Bo can continue to play at this level, I feel like they could have a chance to knock someone off. Makes them much harder to defend. The tools are there for him.

Don’t think if Cruze’s layup against Ohio was a true buzzer beater though. May have come with a second or so left.

I worry that Gates is wearing down . Productivity has been off in last few games, e.g. 11-40 on twos in last three games. Is he getting double teamed more? Any thoughts from the many posters with more basketball expertise than I bring to the table, or is this just an anomaly?? Gates definitely looks worn down, but he is a warrior for sure. In postgame comments Joe Jones said BU's defensive strategy's was to limit 3 pointers from WB and to often double GG.

It is the little things that matter. My father always made us fold up chairs at church/school events. They went on these things which then slid under the stage. Lessons learned, I made my kids do the same.

Re: Gates. My nephew played in a pickup game with a former Harvard player who went on to to play in the NBA. The game was at Lavietes, and the player had just finished an NBA season. He could move laterally very well, but he couldn't elevate. His legs were simply too tired. It is said when the legs are tired, foul shots tend to come up short; e.g., bounce off the front of the rim.

IIRC, it was Drew Lowder vs. Navy in early 2020 on a pass from Joe Pridgen. HC called a TO with 10-15 (?) seconds to go down 1 and set up a play for Joe to take the ball to the basket (which he had been doing the entire second half). He tried to do so again and, when Navy stopped his penetration, he passed the ball to Lowder who hit a 3 from a bit to the left of the top of the key for the game winner.

Landrum had 4 blocks. I would have guessed more. At least 3 were in crunch time. Also 5 offensive boards. I'm not saying this team was ready to challenge Colgate, but the way HC has been burned by guys much taller than Gates makes me wonder how this season would have unfolded with a healthy Coulibaly. Based on the open practice, he was projected to be a starter before the season, Quality minutes from a big guy would have helped mitigate that club weakness and a 7th guy getting major minutes would have helped with the games our iron man looked gassed.
If Coulibaly had been healthy . . . . But injuries are part of the game and if cows could fly, more people would wear hats

Have we said enough about Joe Octave’s play of late? In last 5 games he is 14-24 on twos, 13-25 on threes, and he has gotten to the line where he is 16-21. If you believe in KenPom’s metrics you’ll note that his “o-ratings” range from a very good 110 to an outstanding 138 in these 5 games. He adds 31 rebounds plus 9 assists to just 6 turnovers.

Both Bo and BN credited Dorsey's inbounds pass to Bo for the winning shot. It was a bounce pass that went between two defenders. Most players would not have used a bounce pass.

One of the keys to Bo’s game winning hoop which he pointed out in the post game, was the perfect inbounds pass from Dorsey. He was on the other side of the hoop so the perfectly placed bounce pass was perhaps his only option.

Tied for fifth place with three to play. For what it's worth, both American and Lafayette have two way tie breakers over HC. HC also comes in 3rd with the 3 way tiebreaker. That being said, I really think IF HC can go 2-1, the way American is free falling, there's a decent chance HC avoids the play in round. Seems like just last year, I was talking about how a win over Army in the last regular season game would keep HC out of that opening round and we all know how that turned out. Hoping it's not deja-vu all over again
