Next opponent is Newton North, who WN beat by 3 in January. Should be a beauty.
A MIAA head-scratcher when it comes to a venue. The game is at Taunton, not what you would call centrally located.
The finals are at Tsongas Arena regardless of who's in them.
All 4 top seeds made it on the girls side, including Wachusett, any of those 4 can win. Is that Bill Gibbons' granddaughter that plays for them?

Head scratcher is right about the Taunton site; that's a lot of wasted gas. North has defeated its three opps in the tourney by 21, 25 and 30.

Correct. Holy Name won back in the 70's And two sons of HC greats played on that Holy Name squad. Frank Oftring is 1? Marvin Safford on that team? St Marys Worcester won the state championship. catholicfreepress.org/news/st-marys-little-team-that-couldBurncoat with Mike Bradley lose the final? South with Cedric Ball lose the final to? Tech (Voke) lost with Duane Anderson Neil Fingleton Holy Name team lost the Final.

There is a lot of high quality basketball talent in Worcester. Unfortunately most of it ends up at prep schools.

Must be the same for the girls side; the Worcester public teams the last decade at least have been terrible. This year, however, South Community was pretty good.

Great to see North making a title run. Too bad the final isn't at DCU.
St. John's Shrewsbury won in 2009 IIRC when Richard Rodgers (Coach Rock's son) was a junior. But Shrewsbury isn't Worcester of course.

But Shrewsbury isn't Worcester of course. The D-I champ almost always comes out of the eastern part of the state. Holy Name in the 70's and St John's two titles are the only winners from central MA. That's part of the reason the schools in greater Boston wanted to screw everything up and get rid of the district format for the play-offs

My last year at North in 1964 we had 6'8" Tony Koski at center. Two years earlier he was on my CYC team at Immaculate Conception. He was a late bloomer and ended up playing center for Providence with Jimmy Walker. And followed that up with a long career in Europe.

I'd be interested to know what our resident high school hoops coach thinks of the new play-off format

If the objective was to put the best teams in the finals, it's working. And if another objective was to get as many teams in tournament play without making it open to all schools, that's working too (you either end up in the top 32 of your division or you have a .500 or better record; most of the divisions/genders have at least 40 teams).
5 divisions, 2 genders, the rating system's 1 and 2 are in the finals in 5 brackets; 4 brackets have 1,2,3,4 in the semis.
My objection to the process is that there's too many rounds where the venue is the higher seed's gym (which probably plays a role in why so many higher seeds make the Final Four). They need another Worcester State or two (or three) to step up and host games. One thinks of a tournament as some destination other than another high school.
I did like the reformatting they did about 7-8 years ago where they kept the sections and leveled them off so that the West and Central weren't so small (by moving some teams slightly west of Worcester to the West and some schools in the East along 495 to the Central). Would rather they kept that but didn't.
