Does he remember you repeatedly screaming at him all those years ago? He realized I was just screaming at the refs for always giving Muscala the benefit of the doubt on every play.

You must have treated him better than you did Flannery.

I have. UMass fan for a friend, and he has season tickets right behind the visiting team bench.. He told me how Paulson was screaming at the refs over a call on his player (while at GM). My friend said, “come on Coach, that was a foul!”.. Paulson turned to him and replied, “Of course I know that!”.. Got a good laugh from the UMass folks?

A coach with a good sense of humor?! Great! So, is there any truth to the rumor that Brett is trying his hand at stand-up?

Hmmm. All 3 schools will have new coaches, right? I'm sure this is just a coincidence. Guess Cooley and Ricky didn't get the word that Nelson is gone and Paulsen is our coach now. Do you think either or both schools will be replacements for the D-3 schools that were likely planned before DP got here?

Hopefully he didn't mean Georgetown Prep and St. John's Prep.
It's not April 1st, is it?

I think Bo could benefit a great deal from good coaching. It seems to this non-expert that he has the athletic ability and a good teacher can help him get more production from that ability —I guess that is skills development If Bo only gets one year of good coaching perhaps it's best when he's a senior and a top option on offense. It's similar to a contract year for Bo as he will be playing to get the best grad transfer opportunity possible, as well as bleeding purple.

Does he remember you repeatedly screaming at him all those years ago? While neither Dave nor I mentioned it when we were speaking to him, I did send DP this picture and ratted NAD out but admitted that while NAD led the chant, many of us were accomplices. To his credit, DP, in his response was diplomatic and just thanked for the picture; said he had a fun day at the football game; and looking forward to seeing us at the basketball games and never mentioned the chant. I did ask him if he thought the NIL or the transfer portal would be a bigger challenge for Holy Cross. He said it was "too early to tell" but did say, paraphrasing here, (Dave correct if my memory is wrong) that when speaking to recruits if they don't get the whole Holy Cross package that "they are probably too stupid to come here." No question that 1. he's not going to "run off" Nelson's players and 2. doesn't think we will be seeing wholesale transfers out of HC like we've seen the last 4 years. (He must have "sold" Bo). FWIW, I did get confirmation from one of the former basketball players that I know that Nelson and Blossom wanted him to give up his scholarship (despite being a starter, was told that he "wouldn't play" the next season) and implied another classmate who transferred was not valued and that's why he transferred. Might have also been told he wouldn't play (and was also a starter) My contact said Nelson/Blossom did not value an HC education and while he gave up his athletic scholarship but stayed and graduated, his buddy transferred out. Don't know about you all but to me, that qualifies as "running off" players from the team. No question that Paulsen is more like Chesney with a strong belief in a Holy Cross education and mission. Paulsen being a Williams grad understands the value of a great education. Nelson I don't think ever "got it." I do think Brett will succeed at some place where the primacy is athletics and education secondary. DP also said that he hopes the NCAA does NOT go the D-IA/D-IAA football route for basketball. For the first time in 3+ years, I am optimistic about Crusader basketball's future but recognize it'll take 2 solid years before we could contend. And for certain posters who kept saying a coach needs 4/5 years, bunkum. If those posters thought Nelson inherited a mess from Carmody, Paulsen has to raise the basketball program from the bottom of the ocean where Nelson sank it. I like how the former player in your telling conflates Nelson and Blossom because that validates the sense I had. I found FADMB to be a fine gentleman except for how I thought he supported Nelson over Holy Cross student athletes. I suppose one can also fault former President Father B. for not making it crystal clear that the AD's responsibility to HC student athletes comes before encouraging a coach's ambitions that involves running off players. The upshot is that HC couldn't possibly have done worse with Carmody's recruits than Nelson's replacement selections.

Normally I would expect the St. John’s game to be at Alumni Hall, but as a buy game, would even a sellout at Alumni Hall make enough $ to pay us ? Otherwise it might have to be at MSG.

This is what Holy Cross basketball should be. Right message from the get-go. It would seem our new coach is not just shaking hands with folks because he has to - he is listening as well. I would think watching CDP connecting with the football team in the manner he did had to make a positive impression on his own team as well.

I don't know the arrangement they have with the Garden...whether they pay to play there or just sacrifice a large part of their ticket sales/concessions...but I don't believe SJU would make more by hosting HC in the Garden than at Carnessecca. Many Carnessecca games sell out or approach a sell out (5,600) regardless of the opponent...can anybody realistically expect more than that at the Garden? They also tend to only schedule Big East games in the Garden...although the Duke game would be there, and in 2021 they played Pitt in the Garden (to a crowd of 5,100...but that could be depressed due to COVID/Vax rules). The last pre-covid non BE opponent in the Garden was WVU in 19-20, they drew 7,200. I have a hard time believing anybody could justify scheduling HC at the Garden. I hope I'm wrong...would love to see us at the Garden, but unless part of one of the holiday festivals (like last time we played SJU), I am fully expecting this to be at Carnessecca.

Definitely will be played at Carnesecca. St. John's only played four games at MSG last season. A November or December game against Holy Cross isn't getting played at MSG.

Pitino did say he was going to have more games scheduled at the Garden, but I doubt that includes non-league games against PL opponents. Unless, of course, part of a tournament, then we could very well be in the Garden.
