Looks like the Lions decided not to play any of their offensive starters last night and several of their defensive starters.

$14 million over 2 years. $8.1 million guaranteed Awesome if true. I always take these early reports of contract terms with a grain of salt. But, he’s definitely getting good money and may be approaching “set for life” territory.

From mlive.com:
ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- There are no guarantees in life except the day a person is born, their death, and if they live long enough, they will have to pay taxes at some point. That’s how Kalif Raymond approaches practices, preparation, gameday, his roster spot and of course, training camp with the Detroit Lions: there are no guarantees.
The Lions recognized that edge and rewarded him with a two-year contract extension last week, keeping one of their top performers around for a few more years.
“It’s a credit to him. He’s the one who has given himself this opportunity,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters on Monday. “Since he’s been here, he just continues to prove himself. He is somebody that embodies everything we’re about. He’s overcome a lot. He works every day. He’s smart, he’s productive, he’s versatile. And, you know, he’s one of our guys.”
Raymond signed his first deal with the Lions in March 2021 after spending several seasons with the Tennessee Titans. In his initial seasons suiting up for the Honolulu Blue and Silver, Raymond hauled in 48 catches for 576 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 21 punts for 236 yards.
This led to Raymond inking a two-year, $9.5 million extension with the Lions last year. Then Raymond’s production improved last season as he pulled in 67 receptions for 616 yards. Although he finished with no receiving touchdowns, he returned 20 punts for 264 yards, with one being a touchdown, leading him to last week’s surprise extension.
“I found out almost a couple of hours before you guys,” Raymond told reporters after Monday’s practice. “I’m just very thankful. My agent Hadley (Engelhard) said ‘I got one (gift) dude on your birthday, man, but I got a birthday present for you,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, what could this possibly be?’ I much appreciate it. It helped my family out tremendously.”
Keeping Raymond in the mix for a few more years seems like a no-brainer. Besides his on-field production, he’s been a positive voice in the Lions locker room, helping out guys such as Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Maurice Alexander. The relationship between him and St. Brown is apparent, as the two are usually the last players leaving the practice, often pushing each other and fighting over the jugs machine after practice. That camaraderie and desire to be great is what pushes him daily, which is also setting an example for his fellow receivers.
“I come out here every day with the same mindset. Just be the best version of myself. And honestly, I don’t think that changes,” Raymond said. “I think I can still come out here, man, and just be the best man I can be, the best teammate I can be, and honestly, just keep putting my best foot forward.”
“I think at the end of the day, the biggest thing I appreciate the most is the respect from my teammates and the trust of my coaches. And I think no matter what, I gotta come out here every day and earn that. And that’s my mentality.”
Out of his own mouth, Raymond didn’t want to go anywhere. He wants to be in Detroit. He’s happy to cement his roots in this city and with this team. And most of all, he enjoys playing in a city like Detroit with a like-minded value, the blue-collar work ethic.
“I’m proud every day I put that helmet on. I’m proud every day I put that jersey on. Because this organization, the people that are in it, the coaches in it, it’s not like this everywhere. But you got a bunch of gritty guys who have to go out here. I think I said in an interview a while ago, we got a bunch of lunch pail guys from top down. People who just bring their lunch pail to work and go to work. For the next day, the next opportunity, the next rep, whatever it is, or where the next meeting, they just bring their lunch pail to work and they go to work.”

"From that point on, it was all ball." Just when I thought I couldn't like this guy any more, he does this.

Kalif Raymond signed a two year, $10.5 million contract extension with the Lions on August 11, 2023. Raymond received $8.15 million in guarantees of which $5.7 million is guaranteed new money. The guarantee consists of Raymond's salary in 2023 and 2024 as well as a $3 million signing bonus. The Lions can exercise a $2.4 million option in 2024. The final year of the contract is a void year for cap purposes. Raymond's salary cap number was reduced by $1.275 million in 2023 as a result of the extension.
