This thread seems to pop up once a year, but is always worth revisiting.
If you look at our home schedule this year., we played:
UMass - off campus So. Carolina State and Monmouth - during Thanksgiving Break Quinnipiac - on a sunday afternoon during study period and vs the NFL.
Marist, Navy, Bucknell, & Lafayette will be played during vacation.
American on a Monday night the day before classes resume.
Colgate on Wednesday 2/1
Lehigh on a Sunday afternoon
followed by Wednesday nights vs Army and Loyola.
Ending with BU on a Saturday afternoon.
Students will also be on break for any possible home semi-final or final playoff games.
If we're going to get people into the Hart, I think it needs to be the locals. But how do we get them there?

Even if students are on break for the PL playoffs, aren't they allowed to return for the game? It is sad to see how little HC sports seem to mean to some HC students. When teams show up to support one another it always seems to equal a good boost in spirit at that game.

A big chunk of season is when kids are gone and not on campus. I know it's nearly impossible but get better games on campus. Stop scheduling two-week spring break...spring break should be the first week of NCAA tournament. Oh yeah and also... Win.
Also please stop with academic excuses...if the team wins students will go. No one is studying on a Sunday mid afternoon. And if they are they probably would never go to an athletic event anyways.

I used to use a game as a break from studying. One time I was tempted to keep working and not attend a game. Two friends came into the room and put my coat on me. They brought me to my senses. We had a great time at the game and when I got back on campus, I felt energized and it carried into my work. I guess that is now old fashioned. Should I add I also walked to all of my classes...uphill and through the snow?

OK, the obvious solution is to not change the schedule but give the kids less time off on vacation. Boy, have they got it easy! An on-campus venue for playing (but they have to walk all the way up the hill); they only take 4 courses a semester; they have extended time off for trips to Appalachia or other do-gooder things;and now we see them studying for exams at the palatial and scenic Joyce Contemplative Center watching sunrises (I am sure at least some were "contemplating their navels")!

Large video screen. Events at half time that kids would enjoy. Make it a fun family outing. Free Tshirts for kids. Pizza slices at concessions.

The "fall break" in early October is the most absurd. Does make one wonder how long schools can continue to charge the tuition they do in the long run --- particularly those that lose their shine with employers and top-flight grad schools.

I seriously doubt we'll evah see crowds of 2K+ at the Hart anymore outside of Winter HC, PLT games etc.
Different world. Current students, in general, don't seem to care much. We lost much of the local fan-base when we deemphasized hoop.
I think we can improve on the margins with ideas thrown out in the above posts...but a good crowd (2500+ or so) is going to be a rarity at the Hart under the current conditions (schedule, league, social-media/internet society etc)

I guess you have to start by liking basketball. If there's no interest in the product Ralph Willard put on the court, or the brand of basketball which Bill Carmody implements, two elite college coaches, then the crowds aren't going to show up, whether we have a large video screen or not

To have consistently larger crowds you have to sell more season tickets. There has to be pre season buzz. It will never happen during PL membership. Stop blaming students. Should all 2800 of them also go to every swim meet, or tennis match? If it's exciting or interesting, they'll show up.

When HC of the PL plays Umass of the A-10, the crowd is 3-4000. IF HC of the A-10 plays Umass of the A-10, easily 6-8000.

You've mentioned pre season buzz before. You remember we won the PLT last winter? So yeah, there was a lot of buzz anywhere you went with other HC fans and basketball fans everywhere, because they knew about the run. If ever there was pre season buzz it was this pre season

1) Win 2) Knock off a "name" school 3) Be good enough to get PL title game at home 4) Be a regular in the NCAA tourney 5) Recruit an electrifying above-the-rim Feaster-type player
As to video boards- they are coming in 2018 at both ends.

...As to video boards- they are coming in 2018 at both ends. Is that for certain, CTP? If it is, can a Jumbotron for Fitton be next?

There was Championship week buzz last season. Then we lost by 40 points in the round of 64. There was no pre-season buzz this year. I can't convince former die hards to come to games. The schedule does not interest them. Video boards aren't going to help.

Winning can help solve the first, the second stands alone.

Sorry, Lou, but I believe that gks' intention was to get more students. I am not sure that will do it.

It was an eye catcher when I read the headline, "Increasing Hart Attendance Ideas?" I have been a season ticket holder for both basketball and football for a good 40 years. I continue to buy the tickets, but I have not attended one basketball game the past 2 years. Why? I do not have the enthusiasm anymore to drive 70 miles one way to watch a losing program. Some people will call me a fair weather fan, but, let's face it, most sports fans are fair weather fans anyway. It's all about winning. I will continue to buy season tickets, hoping that someday the basketball program will be a winner. However, until this day comes, my season tickets will just be a donation.
