Take good notes, Crucis, as though I signed up, I will likely be on the road when the Zoom is on and watching might be a bit distracting while driving.

OOC details...
Georgetown, St. John's, and BC -- think we knew all of these, but maybe not BC?
MTE at Winthrop.
Six games in the geographic region (three at home, three on the road).
One other game (I think) was mentioned.

Excellent. BC was news. Thanks, SoV. Guess he did not say who else was in the MTE.

In addition to the OOC schedule comments, CDP said a turnaround isn't going to happen overnight and NIL is a bigger concern than the portal. He said he didn't think NIL would be an issue at the PL level but it has surprised him. Not sure if he was talking HC in particular or the league in general as he commented he was surprised at the amount of money PL kids were getting after transferring. I believe he called NIL legalized cheating.

I believe he called NIL legalized cheating. KH has publicly mentioned a HC transfer who received a $10,000 NIL. I wonder if DP was referring to 2022 transfers. Are there any 2023 transfers known to have received a nice-sized NIL, e.g., to play for College of Charleston?

I’m quite sure Kyrel Luc is getting a modest NIL deal with St. Bona - close friend of mine who is booster there said they’re accumulating $ trying to compete with other A-10 schools in this portal cycle

I was reading some guy's twitter stream (no idea how to paste in a single tweet), and he (WinthropEagleFan) indicated on May 1 that the other teams in the MTE were Delaware State, Bethune-Cookman and Lamar. Either I was reading something from last year, or one of the teams involved backed out. Maybe someone with more social media savvy (meaning the rest of the board) can check this out. So, there is no need to join the Big East or other Semi Pro league, right? Just schedule a bunch of them for non conference pay games each year.

Looks like Longwood is hosting, Dave.
Just as well because a MTE with those schools does nothing for me.

Believe there was a misinterpretation of the Winthrop Eagle Fan Twitter. He did not state that Winthrop would be in the Longwood MTE.
CDP clearly said the games would be in Rock Hill, S.C. with Winthrop as the host.

Not to keep beating this horse, but I got more substance from Paulsen in one zoom call than we got in Nelson's entire tenure.
I particularly liked his answer about defense philosophy, which is basically that it adapts to his personnel. He identifies his 6-7 best offensive players, then figures out what sort of defensive system/approach would best suit their skills.
Other notes:
Practice time right now is devoted to individual offensive skill development. Summer session (6 weeks) will focus a lot more on defensive concepts.
Still working hard to fill out the roster.
Made a point to not watch too much film of the returning players, wants to judge them fresh and give them the opportunity to receive and incorporate his feedback (which he characterized as "frank").
Another good line from his transfer portal/NIL answer was selling HC to recruits as "a 40-year relationship, not a 4-year relationship".
He really seems integrated into the community already. Made a point of citing his interview session with Riga/Chesney/Magarity as a key point in the hiring process (ie when he decided this opportunity was a good fit for him).
Everything about Paulsen seems structured and purposeful: as I mentioned above, he's got the spring and summer practice sessions broken down into components. Someone else above mentioned his formula for building an OOC schedule, which in 30 years of following this team and talking about scheduling, is the most common-sense approach to scheduling I've heard. (1 tourney, 3 power-5/guarantee games, 6 regional home/homes with 3 at home every year, plus one more game).
Clearly, having done this for so long, he gets to apply a lot of experience here; there's little on-the-job training/new challenges. He's seen this movie before. At the end, he described his task as (paraphrasing) becoming an annual contender in the PL, and doing it faster than people are expecting. I took that as there's no doubt he's going to get to that goal, it's just a question of when.
Really encouraging hour.

Unfortunately, I missed yesterday's Zoom. For those who were able top participate in both the previously PC Zoom call and the one yesterday, was there any real differences or mostly a recap of the prior Zoom? Also, anyone know if/when they might replay yesterday's as they almost always record these.
