Marcus Blossom stayed at his Boston area residence while working for HC, I believe. Of course Covid might have influenced putting off a move to Central MA. A decent # of HC professor's reverse commute to Worcester from places like Newton, Natick and Framingham. Doesn't Scott James, or maybe it's another assistant football coach, commute everyday from Kittery, ME?

Reverse commuting from B to W is brilliant because you never have the sun in your eyes. Worcester folk who commute into and out of Boston by car not only have rush hour to deal with, but the low morning sun in their eyes driving in and the low setting sun in their eyes driving home.

Lots of non-highway driving to get from his home to Amherst, a classic "you can't get there from here" place, unfortunately. Bad time to sell a house, would have been much better for him in that regard if he didn't make it to Year 4. Bet he keeps it a while. Good luck to him, best for all concerned he's moved on. Your first statement is absolutely true but I don't agree with your second statement... he could put his house on the market and realistically make about $200,000.00 more than what he bought it for! Location, location, location! Also his son attends the Christian School. There are many really good private schools in the Amherst area. I wish him and his family all the best!!! Well, that was quick... house went on the market a week ago today! Open house last Sunday and "under contract" already! Listed for $250,000.00 over purchase price in 2019! Good for the Nelson family! All the best to them as they head to Western Mass!

Would love to see Brett's HC contract. Does it at least have a clause that his remaining salary is offset by whatever he makes elsewhere?

All I can say is good riddance to a basketball disaster for HC. I want to think Paulsen will do a much better job, but we shall see, shall we not!?!

The excruciating wait for a resolution after the season ended wouldn't have been so drawn out if he was just going to keep getting his regular pay until the contract ended. He has managed his coming and going from Holy Cross well. In between, not so much.

Fun Frank Martin fact (per Jeff Goodman)
"UMass’ Frank Martin has hired former Holy Cross head coach Brett Nelson as an assistant, per source.
Nelson played on Martin’s AAU team with Steve Blake and Udonis Haslem.
All of Martin’s assistants have played for him. Allen Edwards in high school, and Brian Steele at South Carolina."

I think most coaches like to hire from their background. The new staff already knows how the head coaches and what he wants. Look at the H C staff!

He also wouldn't be coaching in Amherst next season Good way to look at it. HC did not get short changed if they negotiated a lump sum buyout because there would be little incentive for the departing coach to replace a head coach salary with an assistant coach salary until the last head coach salary check had been paid. So HC may have spent a buck to save two bucks.

Would love to see Brett's HC contract. Does it at least have a clause that his remaining salary is offset by whatever he makes elsewhere? Probably not, as the contract was terminated by HC This presumes the supposed COVID-related one-year extension was incorporated into the contract as a modification. Also the payout would be for the base contract, and not include any incentive amounts, e.g., winning the Patriot League., a high team APR score.

Well, the Brett Nelson era here in the Worcester County area has officially closed! Several moving vans were loaded up this past week and the Nelsons have officially left the area for "greener pastures" in Western Mass, taking with them a lot of "green"! A bidding war took place and they rode off with a cool $325,000 profit! Terrific return on a 4 year investment! Good for him and his family, all the best!

Add to that a comparable home near Amherst is most likely a better value than Northbridge. At least it used to be.

Yeah, but has he not put his house up for sale? He likely knew he was leaving the area. I wish him no ill will but glad he’s gone as he proved to be the worst HC men’s basketball coach in history. He had some significant competition for that "accolade", but he won it hands down.

I am still amazed that he got so quickly another coaching job, even as an assistant…

Fortunate coincidence his AAU coach is now the highest paid Mass. State employee fifty miles up the road.

Pul-leese, Foley. I won't speak about the other coaches but Milan Brown was not in the same league of incompetence as Nelson. Nelson's won/loss record makes him, hands down, the worst coach in Crusader men's basketball history. Not. Even. Close.
Happy for Nelson's family he got another job. Not particularly happy that he reportedly made out like a bandit on the sale of his house. So, he got fired at the right place at the right time, I suppose.

PLEASE let this thread end. Why keep rehashing BN's failure as HC head coach? It is over. He has moved on. Let it go!
