quite an achievement since only one other person was a two time winner.
Even a guy like Jehyve Floyd, clearly the star of the team and a rare junior winner, did not repeat as a senior

Mr. Maloney recruited Chris P. and many other NYC area players, Chris Logan, Kevin Greaney, Charley Brown, etc.

This almost always goes to a senior. Not even a Ron Perry Jr would be a guarantee to have doubled up his junior and senior years. In 40 + years, Gates is only the second guy to win it twice. As I said above, if this was simply a team MVP, Jehyve Floyd would have clearly repeated his senior year.
Another "knock" on Perry. The award givers have a history of spreading the wealth. Since the inception of the Maloney Award, none of the hoopsters who won Crusader of the Year also won the Maloney Award.
